These are loud when you push the button. It makes us jump each time we push the button to show someone. I am sure it will be an unpleasant surprise for anyone who it is used on. It is not a toy and should not be given to younger children. It cannot be accidentally pushed into a stun gun if you have the button slid off so no worries about having it in your purse. We have three of them and I highly recommend them. I would first check your state laws as some places, like Washington DC, will not allow you to carry them or have them in your car. The flash light is bright and it is easy to charge. It makes me feel better to know my adult daughters have something to startle a predator with and hopefully buy them the time to escape. You do have to make contact to shock them so this does not shoot out waves or metal wires to shock them. Someone said the case was useless, but I don't think it is a problem for us. It is easy to get to if you need it. Remember if you buy it that as you use the flash light the battery wears down so you will need to charge it again. You can not use the flash light at the same time as stunning someone. It is only one or the other at one time. Also you do need to recharge it monthly even if you have not used it that month.

I needed a flashlight for my house in case the power ever went out, and I wanted something I could re-charge rather than relying on batteries that might go out. Additionally, I was starting to get worried about safety after there were multiple break-ins around my neighborhood. Enter the Vipertek VTS! This fits the bill and suits both needs perfectly! I was kind of skeptical as to the quality of the item due to the great price, but I'm pleasantly surprised in this regard: The flashlight/stun gun is sturdy feeling, with a good weight that doesn't feel cheap. The light is bright, clear and strong and I love that I don't need to constantly change batteries since it charges using a standard wall outlet and provided charger. The stun gun is incredibly scary sounding and looking, after I tested it quickly just to make sure it worked. What I thought would be the equivalent of an electric shaver turned out to be closer to a bolt of lightening shooting out of this thing! I'm fairly confident that this would scare anyone with the sound alone, however if need be it could probably take down any person you needed it to in an emergency situation. For this price, I am satisfied and have already shown it off a bit to family/friends who purchased their own!

Arrived as specified. The 3 way on/off/taser switch move a little easier than I would like from flashlight on to taser. So if you push it a little to hard it can end up on taser and could accidently zap you. All and all it's pretty neat.

After reading negative reviews I was almost decided not to buy. But for 13$ I figured why not. After getting the flashlight I figured out I made a great choice. Most of the negative reviews come from people that do not read the warnings in the instructions. To keep from damaging the taser do not fire in the air for more that one second or you risk damaging the unit. It's a great product!!!! Don't let the negative reviews stop you from making the purchase.

Got this January 2017 for about $13. Wanted to have it when I walk my dog and encounter potentially aggressive other dogs. Well, this thing is LOUD AS HELL when you activate the switch! Anyone within earshot hears the electrical "crackle" and I am sure it will scare off potential threats. Have not been zapped by it myself, but at 230 millions volts, I am confident that it would hurt like hell.
