I LOVE this product - it is perfect for my swim workouts. For the first time ever, I felt comfortable enough to swim without my husband paddling along side of me. It also works perfect as a flotation device for a rest on those days when you just aren't feeling so strong. I haven't yet tested it with carrying items, such as shoes, etc, so I will update this review once I do.
My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because of the extra phone case. I loved this waterproof case so much, but recently it split along the side along the top two zippers and I don't trust only the third zipper to keep water out. I LOVE LOVE LOVED that pouch - it had three zippers and a Velcro flap, you could touch the screen on your phone, and it took great pictures while in the pouch... and now, I cannot find a replica/replacement anywhere :(
Other than that, I highly recommend this product!

I have never been so proud of a company as I am with this company. I brought this buoy as a safety device to help me with open water swimming as I am training one day to be ironman.
The buoy is great. It provided the safety net that I need and the confidence for me to push myself. The buoy is out of the way while swimming and does not interfere with the strokes.
The skin in the buoy is very thick so I definitely know it is not going to pop when I need it the most.
Because I got the bigger one, I can feel a drag. But that is okay as it for training long distance and not necessary speed.
The reason that I gave five stars is because the company Back up their products. I did have an issue the one of the loop. And when contact customer service, I got a response from Sam the Hound deliver on the resolution to fix the issue and also express it for my trouble. I can honestly say that I would definitely buy from the company and recommend them to all my friends and athletes.

I'm not a big fan of swimming in open water, especially when that open water is Lake Michigan. It's murky, creepy as h*ell, and i'm pretty sure there's some things at the bottom of the lake that were meant to stay there and not be disturbed. But since most triathlons require open water swimming, and they haven't yet changed the rules to let me do my swim with an inner tube and a tropical cocktail, I needed something to get me through the practices. The Speed Hound Swim Buoy delivered. It's bright orange, so i know the lifeguards and boaters can see me. It goes easily around my waist and doesn't distract from the swim at all. The only times I've even noticed it was there were the times I panicked and went looking for it.
It's easy to inflate and deflate. I haven't yet tried out the dry pocket, so can't speak to that. And as it states, it isn't a life jacket; this is not what you want if you can't swim. But if you want an easy-to-use inflatable to make your outdoor swims safer, the Swim Buoy is a great tool.

I don't do triathlons but I do run competitively and started swimming in a lake near my house for cross training. After a close encounter with a boat that clearly didn't see me I decided I needed something. I had seen another swimmer using a pink speed hound buoy so I checked it out and got one (in yellow). It's very bright, no question that boaters notice it before they see my pasty white body flailing around in the water. I don't use the pouch for keys or anything cause I live so close to my swimming hole but it's always been dry inside after swimming. It was a concern of mine that it would bother me while swimming but I don't ever notice it behind me and it's very comfortable around the waist. YOU SHOULD NOT RELY ON THIS AS A PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE but it does help a lot if you get tired, I do. If you think you need one, buy this one. You won't be disappointed.

I am new to the triathalon scene and I researched the various swim buoys available - I chose the Speed Hound because it fulfilled the main intention - identifying me to others in the water, but it had an additional feature which truly made sense - a dry bag to carry my car keys. I have used it several times and it works great! I read some earlier reviews identifying a concern with deflating the buoy by having to use a key or other object. The latest model has a deflator designed into the cap - simple solution to an identified problem. Overall great product - I would recommend it to anyone looking for a swim buoy that can do more than just help people see you.
