My first unit worked perfectly for 4 months. It quickly finds the maximum power point and does a good job recharging the batteries on my sailboat, even after running the refrigerator, inverter, lights, coffee maker, and more. It's a great unit.
But after 4 months, it failed. An internal short developed, which caused the 30A fuse I had between it and the battery bank to blow. Figuring I had a bad fuse I replaced it and the new one immediately blew. Clearly I had an issue which could either be a wiring fault or a failure in the MPPT charge controller. I took the charge controller home to "bench test". Turns out it had developed an internal short to ground (from battery positive).
I contacted EPSolar, who quickly sent me a replacement unit. The new unit has been installed on my boat for 3 weeks now and is working perfectly.
I've been very impressed by EPSolar's warranty support and their continued interest in my issue. They remained in contact with me throughout the replacement process and even followed up afterward to be sure the new unit operated properly.
Naturally I am concerned that the new unit will fail, but it is good to know that EPSolar stands behind their products with strong warranty and technical support.
