which is very nice compared to some similar products I've seen

Ordered two, and one arrived with the seal broken, presumably decimating the expected shelf life. Planning to reach out to the seller regarding replacement, and don't want to open it in case they want a return to exchange or anything.
These things are *solid.* Package states 1.6 pounds, and the sealed one is as solid as brick. Manufacture and expiration date are both clearly marked on the package, which is very nice compared to some similar products I've seen. Measures about 4.5 x 4.875 x 2" when properly sealed. Should be perfect for keeping in the truck and an emergency bag. Hopefully the "open" one will be replaced, and I'll update the review accordingly.

Essential for any car emergency kit or bug-out bag

My husband and I fall somewhere on the continuum between "cautious" and "paranoid" prepper, so we like to have plenty of emergency supplies on hand. Our previous set of emergency rations had expired, so we were looking for a replacement set. The SOS food rations filled that need nicely. I can't vouch for the taste--we didn't want to waste them by opening them--but they arrived promptly on time. We've got a set in the emergency kits in each of our cars. I hope we never have to use them.
I should note that, unlike the experience of some of the reviewers here, our rations all arrived tightly vacuum packed and sealed. No complaints here.

Good taste, poor nutrition (but isn't that always true)

Great flavor for an E-Rat, but the first ingredient is sugar. While that may be fine for a quick energy boost while stuck in your car for a few hours in a snow storm, I wouldn't want to try surviving off of the stuff. While it may be good for an extremely picky eater during an extended power outage or natural disaster, or as a nice treat during the zombie apocalypse, this doesn't seem like a very good attempt at a lifeboat ration.
tasty...enjoy

best of the three i have tried.
these bars are individually wrapped inside the vacuum sealed pouch. they are about the size of a regular candy bar which makes them easier to eat than the mainstay or grizzly loaf style. They were only a month old when they arrived which is a big deal to me, as the mainstay rations sent were already a year old. good stuff, the three other people at my office that tried them all say they are good too....

A Survival Shortbread Cookie
Micah Willard•October 11, 2016
Much smaller than I expected! Surprisingly good. Not delicious, but good. Like an off-brand shortbread cookie. It's very sweet; nibbling on the cookie bar is about all I can handle per bite and I'm a voracious eater. I doesn't provoke much thirst, but a drink of water does help cut the sweet taste. Packaging is tough and requires something with a point or sharpened edge to pierce. I would certainly be happy to eat this in a emergency situation and it is small enough (about 4" x 4" x 1.5" block) to fit everywhere (boat, house, car, backpack, etc.). Going to get some more for a preparedness kit, now that I have verified that I could actually live with eating them. Purchasing this is a wise choice and you won't regret getting it when they time comes and you are trapped in your car during a white out, without supplies after a Hurricane, or stranded on a dead boat at sea.
