I hear echo!
KAU•July 17, 2018
I hear echo! When I turn my TV audio output to both digital and speaker I hear echos. I can't use both my TV and bookshelves speaks at the same time unfortunately. I have to pick one or the other.
update 7/30/2018: I have received a refund from Neoteck and will look for other brands to try.

OK and does the job, I'd opt for one with volume/gain control over this one.

The good:
- Digital signal is converted to analog.
The not so good:
- Does not respond to Volume control. SPDIF signal remains constant. Volume +/- won't change loudness. Because of this, when connected to an analog 2.1 system users will need to turn knob on it manually in order to change volume.
- Could not return because the item got no free return option and cost of shipping would be 1/2 the cost of the item therefore "CAVEAT EMPTOR"! ;)
- Comes with no SPDIF coax cable (only optical which isn't very common)
- There's no option to buy it with a power adapter adapter... and since without power this adapter won't work it's not like is an option not to get one. The fact that it includes a USB cable is rather disappointing since most TVs that come with a USB often come also with an analog out as well (like headphones) making this converter unnecessary for starters. And if using this with old equipment (which will be often the case), then there won't be a USB available to power this converter.
- One major drawback that all these devices seem to have, is that they have no signal detection to turn itself off when no audio is being sent to it.
- Last but not least, the bright red LED showing that it's on, could've been more discreet and dim than the one mounted on this adapter.
- All these are small annoyance which could be easily rectified if there was the will to do so by manufacturers... to be clear this does not apply just to this item but most of those sold on Amazon and elsewhere.
Hope this helps select the most suitable device for your use case.

Scott•July 7, 2018
This thing basically rescued an old monitor. I have an early plasma screen where the original digital board got fried. It still had a couple of usable ports though, including a simple headphone audio jack. The conversion from optical worked fine and now I can still use the monitor for something useful, even though the HDMI ports are done for. If you get one, remember to check your setup to change the audio as necessary. (For example, mine had been set for 5.1, which sure wouldn't work for this. A simple setting change fixed this.)
VERY satisfied!
Salam Abdelaziz•June 29, 2018
Bought a new Samsung 4K TV just to find out that they did away with all type of analog sound outputs and has no bluetooth capability... that was a problem for me especially that I wanted to use it with my SONY wireless RF headphones bought at the same time. These use 3.5mm audio jack. So had to buy a converter to accept the digital optical output from my TV and convert to a analog to plug in the headset. A lot of similar products are on offer, I opted for the Neoteck DAC... So far, extremely satisfied! Got it in no time, didn't have to buy anything extra, comes with the optical cable which I plugged together with he usb power cable to the TV, plugged the 3.5mm headset jack to the DAC, et voila... working perfectly, no interference, strange noises or anything like that.
In short, you need it? I recommend it!

Solid construction, Great soound!
I bought this to connect a bose speaker to a small blueray player that only have digital coax. output. It works great!
I bought another digital to analog converter for another application, same price but the box is cheap plastic. This one the construction is solid metal, plus it brings a digital sound cable.Truly a great value!
