Nice idea and I would have given 5 stars but I almost cut my finger trying to get it out of the packaging. Also it is not real clear how to refill the lead. Maybe it was written somewhere that was destroyed while trying to free it from the plastic.

I love the concept but I have a few suggestions for some improvements that would make it the ideal quick measure for me. #1 the plastic housing seems durable but I'm not sure if it will withstand the bangs and drops on the construction site. #2 the locking mechanism doesn't work too well for me. It would seem to be more practical if I could pull out the tape and it would automatically lock/stay in place so I could have make the mark easier. Then I can push/hold the released button to allow it to roll back up. Having to make sure that you locked it on the correct measurement is a hassle, especially when you have to be right over the the tape and not allow your big thumb to block your view while trying to lock it. Or better yet, have some sort of quick lock/hold that down while you mark, and when you release it's free to move. It just the standard thumb lock it's practical here.

Another stocking stuffer for my hubby for the win! This thing is handy. My hubby is so used to stealing pencils from inside I had to remind him of the built in graphite marker a couple of times. But now he's so used to it when he grabs a different tape measure he's peeved when he has to stop and go steal another pencil from inside. It's such a small thing but it really is super convenient to have!

I told my wife about this and she got it for me for Christmas. 16' It's a plastic and rubber body. Don't expect to mark a 2x 16' out! I have been using it around my house to mark my Sheetrock. Works amazing for that. I'll take my measurement and subtract it from the width I am cutting so I mark 8" instead of 40" . A little jumpy as you can see in the picture. I'm sure it's operator error. Maybe a small bearing in the lip for the next model would help? It works okay on 2x's. If you need a precise measurement, don't trust the marker! If you know how to work a tape, you may enjoy this. its worth it in my eyes! Plus, you have an extra tape. Can't ever have too many!
