every bit as good as my last Weber
J. York✓ Verified Purchase•March 24, 2018
I've had this for a couple of weeks and so far it's living up to my expectations.
I got this to replace a Weber Silver B that was purchased in the very early 2000s. That grill was built like a tank and lasted about 15 years. After assembling this grill, I'd say it's built every bit as well. I was a bit nervous given that some of the reviews that I read cast a particularly fond glow on the Webers of old. But other than costing well over twice as much, I find this grill to be every bit as good as my old Weber. In fact, it's a heck of a lot nicer than the back-to-basics Silver B that lasted oh so long. I'm bummed that most of it comes from China nowadays, but it doesn't seem to reduce the quality of the LX (which according to literature does receive partial assembly in the USA).
Assembly took me a couple of hours. None of it was all that difficult but there were a lot of steps. I needed help twice- just to hold things while I put in the screws. Once I got it together, I hauled it into the back yard and was disappointed to learn that my 3/8" gas line was not able to deliver enough BTUs for the grill to work effectively. Even a light breeze would blow out the flame. I had a plumber come out and review the line size and run length and determine that my line was delivering 25% of what this grill required: oops. So $625 later and a 3/4" gas line directly to the grill and now it fires up like a rocket ship and the wind never blows it out. The lesson here is to know what size natural gas pipe you have and how long the run is and use a standard plumber's chart to make sure you can get 57K BTU.
The grill heats up to a usable temperature in a matter of minutes. I can get it over 500 degrees in less than 10 minutes. A little later I got it to 600 degrees and then I stopped trying. I'm not sure it can get to 700 but perhaps if you give it a really long time and it's a hot day.
Compared to my Silver B, the grilling surface is about the same size. Heating patterns are similar (hotter in the back, cooler towards the front). The addition of a side burner is nice and something I'm confident I'll use for cooking vegetables to go with burgers and steaks. I really like the stainless steel grates compared to the enameled iron grates on the Silver B. My experience with stainless steel grates on my Big Green Egg is they can last a lot longer than cast iron so I'm hoping that proves to be true.
The included natural gas line is quite long and allows for easy positioning of the grill. I am shopping for a stainless steel/braided replacement so that my dogs can't chew on it.
The included LED handle-mounted light is pretty trick: it is position sensing so once you activate it, it only stays lit while your grill lid is open. As soon as you close the lid, it turns off. The light is quite bright. I don't know that you can see the exact color of a steak, but you can see everything that's on the grill. I love that it turns off automatically after 30 minutes of activity so you don't have to worry about draining the battery. The gas knobs also light up at night.
So far the electric starting is instantaneous. Being natural gas, there is really no color to the flame so I have to rely on the "whoosh" sound of ignition to confirm that it's lit. Or place my hand above the burner to feel the flame. Because it lights 100% of the time, I really haven't had to wonder much if it is lit.
If you have the opportunity to move from propane to NG, I recommend it. Assuming you can deliver sufficient BTUs of NG, this grill delivers and heats every bit as well as my old propane Silver B. Not having to mess with empty propane tanks is a huge deal for me: I hate starting a meal only to find out that I ran out of propane halfway through. That happened to me several times over the years.
Regarding whether to get the LX or the cheaper fully-Chinese e-310 model, the LX USA model (This one) does cost a lot more but there is plenty of hidden value that makes the prices a bit more comparable. Stainless steel grates, the assortment of lights, the cabinet doors, easier assembly: all of these things add cost.
In summary, I'm bummed that it cost me a small fortune, but I'm otherwise loving my Summit B replacement and would make this purchase again in a heartbeat.

Great grill!

This is a great grill. The heat is even. Lots of space but not embarrassingly huge. Assembly was easy ( but I'm a DIYer from way back). Having the side burner for frying or boiling is very handy - you can cook an entire meal on this thing outdoors in the summer when the house is too hot for cooking. The only negative is that the hooks for hanging utensils are too small too be useful. No big deal.
Interesting story: After the delivery truck left, I found that one of the wheels was broken, due to incorrect usage of a forklift at some point. So I contacted Amazon to get a replacement wheel. Amazon told me they unfortunately could not replace the wheel and could only replace the entire grill. I had assembled the grill by then and returning it for replacement just made no sense. I asked Amazon to contact Weber for the part and they said they couldn't.
I contacted Weber myself via their web site, very easy, and they sent me a replacement wheel, free of charge! Kudos to Weber for excellent customer service; points off for Amazon, for using delivery services that broke the wheel in the first place, and then for not being able to deal with obtaining a replacement wheel. I should say that I have had great service from Amazon in all other cases.

A real Weber and a great grill

This is a quality grill and a worthy successor to the 15 year old Weber it's replacing. The design is good and, generally the parts are all very high quality. The grill came with no defects, missing parts, scratches, or dents.
I purchased through Amazon and it was delivered on a large truck by three guys. Frankly, much easier and (via Prime) cheaper than paying for delivery from the local Big Box store. The packaging is large, and you won't be able to move it and the contained grill by yourself so have delivery put the box where you plan to assemble the grill. The packaging is well designed and is -all- recyclable including the very large plastic bottom tray. I assembled the grill by myself over about two hours and a beer. It comes largely assembled with only the side burner, side table, gas tank cover, and knobs etc to be installed by the purchaser. There was only one point where I needed a second set of hands to hold the side burner assembly while I bolted it to the main chassis. There was also only one point where I took to muttering, and that was putting in the two bolts which control the movement of the left-side folding table. I did it alone, but it took 15 minutes and some serious muttering. Still, not a show stopper or even a big problem.
The grill gets very hot quickly, and heats evenly. I especially like the ability to turn off the center burner for indirect heat cooking. I used this constantly with great success on my previous Weber. I will leave it to others to review the cooking abilities of the grill, but I have few doubts based on reviews and my previous experience that it will be very good.
A couple of comments: this grill uses -eight- (8) batteries which are included, of course. Two AA for the electric ignitiors, three D cells for lighting the grill knobs, and three AAA for the grill light which bolts to the handle. So far, all those trick features work great but we will see in a few years. I'm a skeptic of battery operated stuff that lives outdoors, even under a cover. Next, I am not a huge fan of stainless steel. Although my grill is the version with the black grill hood and doors it still has plenty of stainless on the side table and side burner. Although Weber clearly uses quality stainless, I already have fingerprints on mine and I am not looking forward to trying to keep the stainless pretty over the coming years.

Weber Genesis II LX S-340 Stainless Grill

I bit the bullet and bought top end Weber. Only needed 3 burrners as it's two of us most of the time but the cooking surface is big enough for a party.
First time I fired it up, I did it to season the grill and then cook steaks. After about 20 minutes, I checked things and the thermometer showed the internal temp was about 640 F. Hotter than any grill I've ever owned. The flavorizer bars were actually glowing red. Needless to say, I had to let it cool down a bit after searing the steaks. These new burners seem extremely efficient. Hopefully, they'll stay that way.
Assembly took about 45I' minutes and the directions were exceptional. Engineered by a terrifc team.
I live about 1/2 mile from a body of salt water. I hope the stainless stays that way. I keep it covered when not in use. We'll see.

Grill Arrived in perfect condition. Had Amazon Installers put it together and they did an excellent job and were very timely to the arrival of the grill. The grill itself is excellent. It has three burners and heats to 500 degrees + in about 15 minutes. The cabinet is nice but do believe the doors could be of heavier steel. The side burner is excellent and works flawlessly to heat baked beans or whatever you might like to cook in a pot. I did purchase and Igrill3 as an accessory and it fits perfectly on the grill and works fantastically with my Android App. Would highly recommend this grill.
