Superb Construction ~ Beautifully Made ~ Heirloom Quality

I have purchased two of these superbly crafted Chinese Transverse (Dizi) Flutes, one for myself and one as a gift. Since it is crafted in the "key" of G it has a deep, mellow, and rich musical tone. If you have seen the Chinese fantasy adventure series, "The Untamed", it is like the flute used by Wei WuXian and produces a distinctly lovely and haunting sound. I have never played the Dizi Flute before and because I could not make it play I actually thought there must be something wrong with it until I found Paul Chin on Youtube. He has a video showing an absolute beginner how to play a Dizi. I was all wrong the way I was trying to play it. The fit and finish of this flute is flawless, the manner in which the strings are wrapped and tied and the ends are hidden is an example of the highest craftsmanship. You will not be disappointed. This Dizi flute both looks and sounds beautiful. I forgot to mention my flute came with a quality "leather look" case (it's not real leather but it looks like tooled leather) and also an adequate supply of "membranes" which cover the hole used to make that special whizzing sound. However, you may want to cover the hole with some scotch tape for the time being until you get used to the flute if you are a beginner. There is some special adhesive that goes with the membranes and there are videos to show how to attach the membrane. Since it comes in two parts be very patient and gentle putting the two parts of it together. If you look inside the upper piece there is a metal sleeve which fits into the lower piece and you must be patient and gentle as you twist the pieces to slide them together. Look inside, you'll see. Once the two pieces are joined together, it will look like one solid flute made of a single piece of rosewood. I also twisted mine slightly to offset the angle of the holes so my mouth and finger placement was more comfortable.
Very professional quality to this flute.

Very professional quality to this flute. Great sound, great build quality. To help those who complain about the membrane to lower the octave not sticking, have the membrane not quite go around, use tape to hold it in place on the bottom.
Very nice instrument.

If one is wondering if this flute is worth the price... it is. This flute is finished in every aspect, from fit to embouchure to body joint to inner-tapered finger holes. Being a low-G flute it will take a bit of getting used to on the air flow and mouth position, especially on the lower-notes. This is expected. But once you have it, the tone is superb.

This is a wide-body flute larger than the average dizi, which gives it a deeper tone. The wood and finish are superb. I am pleasantly surprised because (to be totally honest) I expected this to be yet another cheaply-made import flute. Nothing about this is cheaply made. They did a fine job on this instrument. I agree with the other 5-star reviews.

If you have any problems at all, be sure to contact the company. They are bend-over-backwards helpful. Don't just return the product and be upset. They will work with you to make sure you have the instrument you need. (I know this from a prior purchase with them.) These people not only sell flutes... the owner loves flutes, and considers those who play them as kindred spirits.

The instrument quality is excellent. Very pleased.
Beautiful instrument, well worth the investment over bamboo

This is my fourth dizi flute, and it is by far the best. Granted, the others were roughly half the price, but this is much more than twice the value of the others. It is loud, so be warned, at least with the higher registers needing a faster blow. The finish is a semi-gloss, and I've never had a membrane stick so well; the photos are after two weeks of playing 1-2 hours every day. It has a dark stain, but in light it looks absolutely gorgeous (I tried to spotlight it a bit in the pictures, which I've also placed a standard 12 fl. oz. can next to as a size reference). The coupling has a tight tolerance and fits securely, I added a touch of food-grade lubricant to prevent chronic wear, and it does not slip around at all unless intended. Keep in mind this has larger fingering holes, and this takes more breath - not a beginner instrument. It is so well crafted, and arrived weeks earlier than estimated (from China to Arizona, USA). My only issue is the volume of this thing, really. In order to hit clean notes, it takes some air! And that rosewood belts it out!
