I have a hardwired alarm system which has had very good reliability for the past 20 years. Over the years I have gone from 5 zones to over 25 zones. In the past I've either bought the expensive 100% tested items, as a bad or failing part is a big nuisance. This meant reed switch parts that were potted in epoxy.
These sensors are epoxy potted. They are also half a short as the old sensors. These also come with high strength round doughnut like door magnets with both screws and adhesive tabs. This is a plus.
The magnets are strong, allowing up to a 1" gap. I use a 1/16" to 1/8" gap for reliability.
Only time will tell if these sensors will last years. A sensor on a test jig with a magnet on a motor shaft activating and deactivating the sensor has not failed in a week of 24/7 testing. We'll get to a million switches by the end of the year.
