Great for VCR to DVD conversion
dancinggs•June 7, 2017
this is exactly what I wanted and is very comparable to my more expensive Toshiba. It plays, records and dubs beautifully and clearly on both VCR and DVD. It arrived as promised and safely.
Good up-converting VCR
Harry T Nester III•January 12, 2017
It says "refurbished", but looks and works like new out of the box. On VHS tapes the output is 480i via the component video and 480p via the HDMI. The only real downside is that the up-converter adds HDCP (copyright protection) to the HDMI stream. If you buy this VCR with the intent of digitizing old home videos on VHS at the highest resolution possible, you will need a device to strip the HDCP between the VCR and capture card. Other than that minor inconvenience, this has been a great purchase.
Dead Remote
Arthur J. Whelan•January 5, 2017
The main unit was fine. However, the remote was completely dead. (I had inserted batteries). I found that the remote was missing one of the battery contacts. I wrote a couple of complaints, but never heard anything. In an effort to avoid sending the entire unit back, I bought a new remote from Remotes.com, and everything is working well now.
Good solution for VCR and DVD formats
Maxwell T. Sandford•November 30, 2016
Working well. I am using a video encoder to get NTSC video from the RGB component video input. Also requires DVD-R recording media. It will not record on DVD+R discs. However, it will play DVD+R media.
Disappointed
Fan 1•November 29, 2016
I thought this product was supposed to play and record DVDs. All it does is play and record smaller discs that are used for camcorders. This is the second time I've ordered a Sanyo product and disappointed yet again. No more after this.
