I was worried that the openings were going to be too small to fit an ultrafine sharpie. The center opening expands to hold one. You can't fit another small pen, but could fit a fine point sharpie in the large opening. Despite my initial misgivings, these clips work well for what I wanted them to do.

These pencil holders work well with loose fitting items. If you put something in that fits to tight th entire hood will come off the magnet. For pencils and pens this works fine.

This item works well for holding a variety of items. I appreciate the strong magnet that allows me to use the item on a vertical or horizontal surface. Works well on the front and side of metal desks, cabinets, etc. I even use them on top of the refrigerator. I have a wall attached metal cabinet and magnet sticks well to the bottom which is easy reach while I am sitting.
