Good "hookout" but the light leaves much to be desired
Stuart Silverman✓ Verified Purchase•June 19, 2018
The device itself is excellent at removing hooks. I purchased this one because of the light it comes equipped with to help see down the gullet of the fish. Problem is that the light has to be turned (twisted) in order to turn it on. This takes a couple of seconds (which is a lot of time when dealing with a fish that has just been dumped on the deck). One hand is needed to hold the device while the other turns on the light. This means that the fish has to be left flopping on the deck. I typically already have the leader in one hand, reach for the device and then remove the hook. The product would be so much better if there was a button to press with the thumb (making it a one handed operation) which turns the light on. It gets (as many as) 3 stars because the business end is the best "hook grabbing" configuration. The length is also very good. The (blue) color is a plus as it is obvious to distinguish the device from the tissues of the fish. The price is also "OK."
I love it

I would definitely recommend this hook remover. It looks great, feels strong and sturdy and works smooth. I got the smaller of the two and it fits well into my tackle box at around 9" long. I basically fish for bass but I also catch walleye, pickerel, pike and sometimes good size Muskie. And for this reason I may buy the larger 13" model in the future. The further I can stay away from their teeth the better I feel. I don't intentionally fish at night very often but the light is a great idea and should be a definite help.

The Madbite Hook Out Fish Hook removers is a phenomenal product. They are light weight and easy to grasp whether you 10 or 100 years old. They do not require a lot of squeezing pressure to remove the hook. The shorter length work splendidly in my Kayak and are still long enough to reach all the way down the throat of my fish to easily remove the hook so I can release my catches, after all the KastKing motto is keeps fishing fun and the only way to do that is to catch and release the fish for our future. Another phenomenal product and life long customer!

Seems to be well constructed. I got mine for my kayak fishing trips but I need to be careful not to drop it in the water because the lamp is not water resistant. There is a hole at the back of the hook remover to add a lanyard that is not included. Handle is very comfortable.
Longer Model Hook Remover

This is the longer model of the Hook Remover. The smaller one is easier to use and how often will the hook be in 9" from the lips. Small hooks may be difficult to use. The light could be mounted under or the hook at the end flipped. Where the light is cast a shadow at the usable end of the remover. Just saying it might be a bit easier if the light was pointed at the area where your trying to grip the buried hook. This is definitely well built and feels good in my hand. The last point I'd like to make is that it's a little big to fit into a tackle box. You may need to carry this outside of a tackle box/bag.There definitely been designed with thought... there's a small hole for a clip, string other device to help carry it.
