Good weight, works well, but the flat surface is a bit rough in spots. Minus one star for the surface.

I wanted a cast iron grill/griddle for as long as I can recall. My Grandmother would cook on one of the camp fire every year when I was a kid. When I seen this Grill/Griddle I recalled my grandmother and ordered it. I just couldn't wait for it to get here, but so far I have been unable to use the grill or griddle.
When I opened the package, there was a very bad smell and a large stain in the middle of the griddle side and a good deal of rust on both sides, almost as if the box had sat in water for an extended time. I have been working the past weekend to see if I could season it properly and try and use it.
The griddle side of the pan is very rough, more than expected for a new cast iron, and it is going to take a grinder or a wire brush to get it to where I can cook pancakes or eggs without sticking. But that is a whole other weekends worth of work.
There is an upside, the Grill side, also rough and rusted, looks like it will do a very good job once I get it properly seasoned.
All in all, this was about $15 cheaper than the same Lodge Grill/Griddle. I am not sure it was worth savings, I would be willing to bet I spent that much on running the cleaning cycle on my oven just to clean the rust and season the iron.
Maybe I got a bad one, or maybe this is just how this product is"¦ Your call, for me. Should I need to replace this, I think I will get a Lodge.

... time this weekend on a camping trip and I love this skillet
Dean1625•October 6, 2017
Just used it for the first time this weekend on a camping trip and I love this skillet! Fits perfectly with my camping stove, but will also work perfectly on my stovetop at home. Though it says it's pre-seasoned - even though I trust them - i went ahead and gave it another coat of oil and time in the oven. Very impressed. I have a few Lodge cast iron pans, and this is of equal quality.
Induction doesn't work for the griddle surface
Amazon Customer•September 28, 2017
Bought this for my induction cooking surface as cast iron is known to work well with induction. The grill surface indeed works well; heats up fast. Unfortunately, the griddle surface does not work with my induction unit. I think it is because the grill surface is concave and not close enough to the induction surface to activate it. Not a big deal for me since I bought it mainly for the grill surface.
