Adds to visual appeal, Ollie, the beta fish does not play with this

This is a nice product to add to your tank for some green color. Ollie, my beta fish, didn't seem to play with the balls as was mentioned by previous comments. The balls just sit at the bottom of his tank along with his other plant and little log. I would suggest if you were to purchase any of these moss balls, this is the size to go and do not get any bigger. I purchased this along with a bigger size of moss plant and had to take all of the big ones out. They were way too big for his tank and I knew he definitely could not move them. I think this product adds to the visual appeal of the tank but it doesn't really keep Ollie entertained. I still think he's bored, so I probably have to move on to something else for him.

My Marimo arrived perfectly round and verdant green! Flattened of course because of travel but that was fixed in a second running it under water. It floats after you squeeze it out, but if you squeeze it underwater it will sink immediately. I'm not sure if you can with this particular brand but some people have gotten infestations of pest snails from Marimo before, but mine is completely snail free! You could always quarantine it before placing into a tank, which I would recommend for any new live addition to the tank. I look forward to seeing my fish's reactions to them, especially my ghost shrimp! I bought it especially for them after all!
EDIT: I now have them in my tank while it's cycling. The ones I bought are on the right side. I also received a larger one from my cousin that's nearly 15 years old! It is on the left.

Of all places, I first saw a marimo ball in a tea shop. They were selling them in little clear cups, a new pet. Definitely not only for fish tanks. I ordered the marimo set on this page and got a large oblong marimo (2" x 1.5" x 1.5") and one small spherical (0.5").
They arrive sealed in a damp bag. All you have to do is rinse them off and gently squeeze and then add them to new water. I'm keeping them on the counter in a clear pitcher. They don't need that much water, but I like the look. Also, marimo like a little wave action "“ that's what keeps them round in the wild "“ and it's easy to make little waves by picking up the pitcher by the handle.
I'm not worried about the oblong shape of the large ball I received. Eventually, it will roll more spherical if I give it proper exercise (rolling it in my hands). But the main reason this got 4 stars instead of 5 is that the large marimo arrived a bit squashed in a plastic bag. The joy of marimo is that they are beautifully round in the wild.
Change the water weekly. Keep out of direct sun or water too hot, and these fellows will give me enjoyment for years.
