Good choice on a budget, and obviously so

I like the finished product most. I did not like the pitiful instructions. However, I may order another for another room since now I know that it is actually easy to put together. I kept second-guessing my instinct about putting it together upside-down; I didn't want to have to undo the whole thing. The other thing I don't like about it is that the cord hangs down the side and you clip it to the posts down one corner. I just think that in this day and age there should have been a slit to hide the thick black cord inside the posts; it is the only thing this color, and it stands out.
The wood is cheaper than I had hoped. I might see if I can preview a much less expensive version at the local big box store to see if there is a significant difference in appearance. The glow from the lamp, however, is pleasant and relaxing. I bought it for a bedroom, but the shelves at each level make it useful for displaying photos, decorative somethings, or other living room items. It is a solid weight: not heavy but not so light that a bump will send its contents flying. It is also a good balance of plainness and simplicity for a room where solids work.
For a normal person's budget, this piece works, and by normal I mean someone who doesn't have hundreds of dollars to splurge on style for a room. "Real wood" for shojis costs hundreds. It is not solid wood. It's not the worst processed wood I've ever put together, but it fits right in with all the other manufactured attempts at culture or historicity in my house. You can find this debate within the questions and answers, but the product listing should make it more obvious.

Purchased the same one but in the Havana Brown wood 3 months ago and the shade was completely different. The Havana brown shades were individual slides while this one was a whole square that you stand up-right with. I liked the previous one more as you can slide each shade in place so the entire lamp looks more steam-lined. This one there's a big gap from the corners. The shade on this one is also pure linen-texture while the havana brown one had a rough papyrus paper texture. Worried that if I had ordered two I would have had a mismatched set. Thankfully each lamp was for a different room so I didn't care.
The idea of shelves for a lamp is great, little wobbly but nothing a few bumpers to elevate can't fix. The light is super dim though. I'm using a 100W LED bulb instead of the one they came with. Still dimmer than I would like but enough for my purposes.

This is my 7th Brightech product that Ive purchased. Some reviewers complain about the quality, but really this is a value brand with semi-upscale looks and average-at-best quality. Ive never been disappointed thus far for what I paid. Youre not going to get Restoration Hardware quality for Walmart prices.
This unit took about 15 minutes to assemble, some of that because I initially ignored the instructions.
One thing to note is that it is very light. You will need to weigh it down with books, basic decor will not suffice - IF you have this on carpet which will naturally make it a little uneven.
It is not very bright, but thats perfect for me. You could always swap a higher lumen bulb.I use it as a nightstand and lamp. I would not recommend this as a reading lamp though. The multiple shelves can be utilized well relative to a standard single level table.

After much research, I ordered two of these for a small room I was converting to a second bedroom. Space was limited, but I had still wanted some sort of nightstands and lamps on either side of the bed. I actually have one of these in the darker wood in my own bedroom upstairs, and have loved it and never had any problems with it, so I finally decided they would also be perfect for the limited space in my guest bedroom. I am a 60-year-old woman with some mechanical ability. It took me just under an hour to put the first one together, from opening the box and sorting through parts while enjoying a glass of wine, to tightening the last screw, inserting the bulb and turning it on. The instructions are very confusing, of course, but it's all still pretty basic if you can just refer to the diagrams. Second one took me less than 35 minutes and a second glass of wine, with just a few glances again at the instructions. The natural wood color is beautiful, and I'm very happy with them. The box arrived undamaged, all the pieces were in good shape, and everything fit together well. I would definitely recommend these lamps to a friend.

I ordered this to use as a combo nightstand/lamp in a small room with limited space for furniture because of a radiator. It was easy to put together and it fit perfectly. The light is not overwhelming (perfect for a nightstand light) and it feels sturdy -- especially given the reasonable price.
Update: I've now had this for about 2 weeks and I definitely love it. There are two reasonably-usable shelves (the one at the base is really low for access while in bed.) Worth it!
