This device is wildly inaccurate as many of the 1-star reviews have mentioned - I have a fever right now which is measured at 100.3 reliably with a tongue thermometer, yet multiple consecutive readings within one minute from this device gave me temperatures around 96, 97, 98, 99, and 100. Every product they sell has an 'F' rating on fakespot, with an average of >=60% of reviews being paid for. Additionally, they appear to be making fraudulent FDA claims as I cannot find evidence on fda.gov that this or anything by Paryvara is FDA approved. Paryvara sells multiple overpriced thermometers all with the same seemingly fake FDA claim and they all are represented in the majority by fake reviews. Complain to Amazon and ask for your money back.

I bought this Paryvara TH-1412 infrared thermometer above all the (almost) identical items on Amazon that were half the cost because it had an "FDA approved" seal on this website. The item delivered has no such seal on the box, on the instructions, or on the thermometer itself and I can find no reference it this brand on the FDA website. I wonder if this is false advertising?

The thermometer seems to function OK, but only if I take a series of around 5 readings and average them. However, single readings may be up to 1.5 degrees F different. By comparison, my standard digital oral thermometer is consistent within 0.2 degrees over a series of 10 readings.

Compared to the oral thermometer, my forehead readings were, on average, 1.8 F higher, the left ear 1.5 F higher, and the right ear 0.7 F higher.

My suggestion is that if you buy one of these IR thermometers, you should first sit down and compare its readings with the thermometer that you have been using up to now so that you know what to get used to. Do it when you are in good health and are at rest so that you know what your "normal" temperature is. See whether you prefer the head, left ear or right ear for your particular situation.

The ear readings are straightforward to do. For me, I push the probe fully into the ear; get it as deep as possible, and then momentarily press the ear button. The device will beep (possibly several times if you are over the manufacturers preset limits) but the reading is then done. For doing this on another person you may have to pull the ear slightly sideways to get the sensor as deep as possible.

To do the forehead check, place the IR thermometer head against the left side of your forehead, above and about in line with the left corner of your left eye. Press it against and slightly into the skin, push and hold the "head" button and slowly drag it across your forehead over a period of 5-10 seconds to the point where it is in line with the right corner of your right eye.Then take your finger off the "head" button before lifting the thermometer up and away from the skin. The display will show an average reading of the temperature of your forehead. It will take some practice to do this in a consistent way and obtain consistent readings. Establish the technique before you get ill.

In summary, I am somewhat disappointed in the advertising and wonder if I have overpaid as a result. The thermometer can be made to give consistent readings as long as you train yourself and develop your technique. The readings will almost certainly be different from what you are used to with a standard oral thermometer and you might find it beneficial to write your new "normal" temperatures on the white body with a felt tip marker.

Personally, I think I am going to stick with a $10 quick-read digital oral thermometer for my critical health needs.

Very inaccurate, with differences up to 4 degrees when compared to an alternate thermometer. Mother instinct said child had fever, but this one read at 97.7 after cleaning it. My other thermometer registered at 103. Quite a difference. Do not recommend this product.

It is good for checking kids temperatures at night because less noisy as the last thermometer I had. Makes a faint ticking noise as its reading forehead. Simple to use.

This is a great thermometer! I purchased this for our home since we have been using an oral thermometer for ages. My mother recently came home from the hospital after breaking her hip and at times she felt she was running a fever. This thermometer came in very handy especially when you don't want to wait for two minutes for a temp. The product is easy to use and pretty accurate. There is a difference in temp readings between the forehead and ear. However, it is pretty close to being accurate. I am glad we purchased this medical necessity for our home.
