Love love LOVE this little gadget! Once you get the hang of it, you crank out empanadas like it's going out of style. I've always loved empanadas but you can't always find a good one and if you do, it's fried. This little gadget solved both those problems because I was able to make my own filling and then BAKE THEM! Aah! Game changer!

This thing does not do a very good job at all. The dough sticks to it, even after spraying with oil, it crimps the dough in a way that breaks it, the crimping doesn't even seal the dough very well which allows it to leak, and it stretches the dough in the back which tears. The biggest issue I ran into was that when you opened it up it just tore the empanadas apart. I got around that by cutting two pieces of wax paper and placing one on each side. That let me get the empanadas out without ripping them, but half of them still ended up splitting apart in the oven where the crimping was weak. (I've made a lot over the years, so I know how to use an egg wash to help the dough seal and how to crimp the edges). They're also incredibly tiny. You literally can't store more than a tablespoon of anything inside them. In fact, sometimes even with only a tablespoon the filling squeeze out. That might be fine for small desserts but it does not work well for anything larger.
In the end it's just easier to do it by hand. This thing offers no benefits over just doing it manually. It's not even quicker.
