Great Self-Defense Pen

Seems very sturdy and the clicking feature is great. Gerber comes through again. The only weird thing is that there is a metal point for self-defense near the tip of the pen which sometimes interferes with writing.
Clicky tops are the best

Wanted a heavy duty pen, and this one is exactly that. None of the gimmicky garbage that a lot of the pens have and most importantly for me it's a clicky top. My only concern was that glass breaker would require repositioning the pen to write but it seems to be fine even facing the paper due to its small size. Only way to improve it would be offer an aluminum version as it gets a little heavy if you're writing a lot.
Excellent Quality.

I can see why they call it a "tactical" pen. It's very heavy because of its metal construction. Given its non-writing uses, being heavy makes sense. Just don't try to wear it in a regular civilian shirt pocket. The pen is only a fraction of an inch longer than standard ink pens. It writes well, but I don't think I would want to take a lot of notes with it, such as in a class or seminar. Nevertheless, it will be an integral part of my emergency auto gear. I just hope I don't have to test the window-breaking feature.
Just to be on the safe side, if I take it on a plane flight, I will put it into my checked baggage. I'm sure any airport security agent would love to confiscate it.

Great pen, but easy to lose on the sleeve...

I bought this pen as an Afghanistan tour impulse purchase. It was very heavy, and I really enjoyed the feel. Working outdoors in heavy-maintenance environments I felt sure this pen would be the first to actually hold up well to abuse. The first issue I noticed was that the depression was stiff, and did would lock down ~1 in 4 attempts (I assumed this would 'break in'). Also, the retaining clip was not very tight... it fell off my sleeve on the first night!
Gerber's customer service was outstanding as usual. I wrote to them mentioning the clip and the depression issues and was immediately sent a replacement. The clip on this one was tighter and it the pen locked down most of the time. This pen lasted a couple months, but it also fell off while I was running. In my opinion, the weight of the pen is simply too much for the retention clip.
Everything considered, I really did love the pen and would like another but not at the current price. If anyone finds my pen(s) laying around Afghanistan please return them to me :)
