Like most people reviewing the Netgear CM1000, I was swapping out the Comcast Xfinity supplied modem after recently upgrading to their Gigabit plan.

I did a little research before hand and found that the previous model (cm700) and a lot of other Docsis 3.1 modems manufactured in 2017 were defective due to the reliance on an Intel-based chipset known as the "Puma 6". Before ordering, I got detailed technical specs and found the CM1000 uses a broadcom chipset, thus removing any concerns.

There's really not much to say other than:
Easiest modem swap ever.
Total time spent installing the new modem: 5 minutes.

Product manual comes with a list of modem activation URLs for both Xfinity and Cox on the back of the manual (I didn't need it, however).

No issues, no loss in connectivity, no loss in throughput. Just like it should be!

A good modem that will hopefully be future proofed for some period of time. Even though the box states is does NOT work with Spectrum (Formally Time Warner cable), I was able to activate this modem in my area at least. It wasn't eligible for online activation, however they got it activated in about 10 minutes by calling the Spectrum support number.

An important note, I'm getting less speed with this modem over my old modem (Netgear CM500). This one gets about 150Mbps, and my old one got around 220Mbps, this is despite the new one connecting to more channels (24 channels locked vs. 16 channels with the old one). My guess is that Spectrum operates some channels as DOCSIS 2.0 for backward compatibility in my area. the old modem supported 2.0/3.0, and this one supports only 3.0/3.1. My feeling is that will change going forward, but something to consider.

In my case I was replacing a modem that started getting flaky, random lockups, odd behavior, etc. I went with this model with the feeling that it would be compatible with higher speed services in the future.

This products is great. We have Comcast as our provider and service is not good. I refuse to rent their router. My previous router was 6 years old and they kept blaming it on that.. Could not facetime or stream without trouble. I went to Best Buy to get their opinion and they wanted to sell me a separate router and a modem. Cost was over $200.00. Decided to use my prime acct. and check out an all in one router/modem and could not be happier with this product. I am not a tech person but setting this up was so easy. Since I set this up, a week ago, I have not been kicked off the internet or any trouble streaming. I saved well over $150.00 by purchasing this from Amazon.

My house is 1500 square ft and 1200 square feet in the basement and I'm able to get WiFi in every room. When I went to set up the internet since we just started with Xfinity. It wouldn't let me connect to their website to activate the service through the Ethernet port.so using the wifi allowed me to connect and set it up for some reason. It's a great router! It does get a little hot so I just soldered on a small DC fan and that helps. My old router lasted 4 years with a fan. Seems to help the lifespan.

Got my new netgear modem router and followed the easy instructions to get it hooked up. I have Comcast and it hooked up and activated right away but I still had to call Comcast to register it with them and deregister theirs. After that was done, it was all set, just had to reconnect my phone, tablet, laptop, smart tv's and Alexa but it went just fine. Speed is fast and all works perfectly. Why didn't I do this a long time ago??? I am retired and try to stay on top of the tech in our home but this was no problem if you have some basic knowledge and follow the directions.
