I needed dark curtains to block out as much light as possible because I spend so much time in bed during the day. These work "okay" at blocking direct sunlight, however you'll have to get creative to find a way to seal the seams against your window trim if you really want a dark room. The fabric itself washed okay in my washing machine, and feels to be of reasonable quality.

These curtains are soft, and the color was beautiful. Not real sure about them being 'blackout' drapes, because I never got them hung - the color was beautiful, but not quite the best match for the fabric I'm trying to match.
