As someone who didn't grow up eating this stuff, I must say that it is an acquired taste. It has the very recognizable scent of dried fish (very pungent), but added sweeteners may surprise you. When pan-fried, these sweeteners take on a taste akin to caramelized sugar, which provides a sort of odd mix with the powerful dried fish taste, the savory sensation of preserved meat, and the slightly crispy on the outside, firm on the inside texture that is produced. Due to the in-your-face flavor profile, this is definitely something you'll want to eat in moderation (eat too much and you might get a stomach ache, as I learned the hard way). You may enjoy it, but don't expect it to be a hit at a house party.

One thing I will say is that, if the price seems a bit high, you'll immediately discover upon receiving the snacks that it's actually quite fair. Though thin, the jerky slices are quite large (about the diameter of a decent pancake), and at a pre-cooked weight of a half a pound, there's way more fish jerky than you'll be able to eat in a sitting (expect the bag to provide several servings). In that regard I do have one gripe: while the product was fresh and well sealed in the packaging on arrival, the bag is not resealable. Once opened, you'll have to keep it in your own resealable container (e.g., bag or plastic food storage tub) to prevent it from getting stale.

All in all, I'd say that this snack is worth giving a shot if you like expanding your horizons. However, given the huge variety of appealing snacks of similar cultural origins, I wouldn't recommend this fish jerky over other options with a more familiar flavor profile.

This is the real deal, the same as what my mom used to get from the Korean markets. The key to eating them is to roast them lightly over the open flame of a gas stove until it gets golden and soft and maybe a little burnt around th edges, kind of like you would with marshmallows. Then, you cut them into strips or little pieces and they make a good snack, either alone or as something to fill your stomach while you drink alcohol. It's dried fish, so there is a slight fishy smell if you put it to your nose, but it has a sweet taste that makes it easy to eat. Your jaw might hurt from all the chewing, though.

I loved it. I am just a fan of this fish jerkey. You have to cook it nice though. It is not like regular jerkey. You need to cook it on a fire/stove or microwave it. I like it cooking on a pan too. You can put a little bit of oil to make it shiny and little greasy. It goes well with beer but I also like to eat just itself. I like the convenience of how I do not have to go to Korean market to get it.

Sweet-ish and with strange smell. Hap to throw away.
