The Num Noms Nail Polish Maker is such an ingenious idea for young girls, of which I have 4. My little ones had hours and hours of fun examining and learning what the product does (it is an engaging presentation), and mixing up their very own nail polish concoctions! Then after the creation stage of the product (it makes 3 complete bottles of nail polish), the girls had loads of fun decorating their nails with the various colors, scents, stickers, and artificial nails they themselves had created. The kit even comes with inventive and cute girlish ways to apply the polish, stickers, and artificial nails. The only reason I have given this product 4 instead of the full 5 stars is because the very nature of this toy set is disposable. Once the nail polish has been created and used, there is very little incentive to keep the whole kit around as a toy. Sure additional nail polish could be added to the set, but the whole enthralling aspect of this kit is the fact that it is designed to create the unique polishes. Once that aspect is exhausted, the toy itself becomes largely moot. That said, it is an outstanding set while the fun lasts providing hours and hours of fun!

I did not purchase this on Amazon but I did purchase this item at a toy store. I felt so compelled to write a reviewas a parent and consumer. I am forty something and I could not even get this thing to work right! Most of the "milk" and other liquids that are supposed to be squeezed into the little bottles, don't make into the bottles. Most of it gets on the table and the kids! What a mess! I am all for kids getting their hands dirty but at least make it fun! My 6 year old daughter started getting so frustrated with this and even I Did! I would pass on this and get a chemistry set because all they really want to do is mix different things together and see what happens.

If I could give this no stars, I would. Let me start by saying my 6 year old daughter thought it was awesome. 30 minutes in to trying to mix the polish, we are both VERY frustrated. The colors went in fine. However, the "milk" is an absolute disaster. It does not easily fill the bottle, but rather spills out the top due to bubbles in the milk. We were excited to mix up a color, add some glitter and get to painting nails. After trying to mix the paint, I'm ready to throw this thing in the trash. We would have had more fun opening the blind bags with nail polish and actually painting our nails. Save yourself a HUGE headache and skip this.

This is horribly messy. Even when you follow the instructions to the letter you will abbsolutely spill and waste the nail polish provided. Make sure you have some wet wipes handy. A lot of wipes.

This is a cute set and a fun activity, with a bit of patience. The idea is to make your own nail polish by mixing the base, a scent, some glitter and a color in the small character bottles provided. I say it requires patience because the openings of the bottles are small and items need to be added slowly so they don't spill over the sides. The stand is set up like an assembly line to squeeze everything in and then mix, but my daughter found it easier to hold the bottles in her hand and add the items. She felt she had more control and didn't spill as much. And yes, there are spills. This can be a messy activity, so protect your countertop.

Once complete, the nail polish looks nice. It goes on smoothly as long as you use thin coats. My daughter covered her nails well with three coats. It doesn't stay on as well as nail polish we buy, with the polish on the tips wearing away within a day. It is a lot more fun to make your own polish rather than buy it, and that's the part my daughter really enjoyed. Although she's not into these Num Noms characters, she did like the cute set up with this kit. It's recommended for ages 4 to 15 years. I would think four to seven year olds would probably need some adult assistance, but older kids could do this on their own. It comes with three bottles to make different nail polishes. Hopefully, they'll make some refills so my daughter can make more.
