great portable set
I wasn't quite sure what to expect from a folding magnetic chess set. I just wanted something that was easy to carry but that still had a reasonable amount of quality to to it. flexible chess mats just weren't going to fit the bill. I'm happy to say that this is well made considering these considerations. The pieces are small without being too small that their hard to handle. The magnet is sufficiently strong to keep pieces in place even if the board is inverted, but you can still easil place pieces. You'll almost forget that it's magnetized.
The numbering and lettering on the side is a great touch for people learning the game.
The only thing that could make this better is if the board had a way to stay 'locked' when open. In order to keep the board flat if it's lifted up, you have to pick it up from each side. This is only a consideration if one was playing on a very uneven surface, but again, would not affect the pieces since they hold well on the board at any angle. Just a "nice to have" and not worth deducting a star.

I bought this as a gift for my nephew. It came with all the pieces and is a good size. Only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is there was some wood splinters on the outside of the board. I had to sand down all the edges to make sure users don't get poked. Other than that the board is great

This is nice size chess board. Because the board and the piceses are magnetic, it won't make them loss so easy. My sons leave all the pieses on the board after finishing the game and play other things. I will collect them into the board easily. The size is easy to hold for the kids and well crafted. Love them.

This chessboard is perfect for traveling because it is very handy, not too big nor not too small - which, I can even fit in my purse, and magnetic. The pieces have magnets that make stay on their squares perfectly even when there's a movement. I am definitely bringing this chessboard whenever we go out of town. I just hope that there are spare pieces included in the product though, overall I still think that this is definitely a good buy!!!

It is described as a travel chess set but it does have a decent size that kids can use it very well. The material is sturdy and not very light, which I think it's important for kids to hold and carry. My boys are excited about this set. It looks not just like a toy but sophisticated game. You must have one for kids anyway. I am so glad I get the right size and quality at this price.
