Great rack for Ebikes
Vincent✓ Verified Purchase•January 13, 2024
I own a four door compact car. Most racks that can hold up to 60lbs require a two inch hitch. Saris can hold two of my ebikes on class 1 hitch which is 1 1/4 inch. I have made several trips on the highway with no issues. It's easy to install and remove. I have two bikes with fenders and I can secure them with included straps and locking cables. Looking forward to road trips in the New Year.
Solid rack, but had to send it back

I wanted a solid 'lightweight' rack that could haul 2 Evelo Aurora ebikes with a Class 1 hitch. This one looked promising but I couldn't make it work. The Aurora's have fenders, rear racks, and rear mounted kick stands and these all tend to interfere with the wheel clamping mechanisms of the Saris Superclamp EX2. There are 2 plastic "U" clamps at each end of the Saris rack that clamp down on the front and rear bicycle tires. But only one of the clamps at each end is designated for the front tire (not sure why it would matter). If you put the front tire in the designated clamp, the Aurora kickstand has a hard interference with the opposite clamp support bar at the back end. The rear fender and rear rack on the Aurora also make it difficult to position the clamp support bar for the front tire of the second bike. I also did not like the 'slop' caused by the tilt mechanism that allows the bikes to "teeter-todder" on the rack. I can't justify spending $500 on a rack that just doesn't work well with my ebikes. I will continue to use my Saris Freedom 2 Rack even though it also has some ebike issues. It should be noted that racks with these angled "wheel pockets" produce a lighter and more compact rack BUT they are more awkward to load and may require 2 people if the bike is a heavy ebike.
Great Product.

I got this in July 2022 so Quality wise I will update later. Easy access on the back of my Ford Edge without removing bike rack just need to tilt. built in locks so no need to purchase separate locks. Price wise reasonable and made here in the USA. Wobbles a little bit when you cross the train tracks or potholes. Which also same as my old ones that I replaced.
Very responsive company

I bought a Saris Superclamp Ex 2 Bike Hitch Car Rack to haul my 2 electric bikes. My purchase was in November of 2022. I used the rack for the first extended trip in April, 2023. On the interstate, with the bikes loaded, the rack tipped back (as if to allow me to open the back hatch on my SUV). It locked back into place but it happened a second time. After that I strapped it to the roof rack to avoid a 3rd time. When we got home, and I have to repeat that this was 6 months after purchasing the rack, I called Saris. The agent immediately said, "That shouldn't happen and I'm going to send you a replacement." No questions. No hassle. No delay. 2 days later I received and used the replacement and it works just like it is supposed to. And this company is one of the best I have dealt; immediate positive action to solve the customer's problem. What more could I ask!!!
Sturdy enough to trust with your E-bike

This rack is rated for two 60 pound bikes. I use it in my 1.25" receiver to carry my Aventon Aventure. My bike weighs 72 pounds per the website. I have a 4 pound Abus lock, two racks (front and rear), a trunk bag filled with a Kryptonite lock and cables, mirrors, etc on the bike. I remove the battery to lighten the load by 7 pounds, but the bike probably still weighs at least 70 pounds, and this rack handles it like a champ!
I did get the optional fat tire holders to place closest to the vehicle. The heaviest bike of the two should be placed near the bumper.
I don't usually use the tilt option, but it handles the weight well. I'm quite impressed the rack is that secure on a small receiver. I accidently turned into a steep downhill drive that had washed out, and the loaded rack swayed, but did fine.
This rack doesn't have a ramp for walking the bike up, but I've found that I can lift the bike's front half up using both hands, and then the rear. The fat tire holders help there, too. The bike is balanced, even while unsecured.
I had noticed that the arm that holds the back half of my bike had the paint rubbed off in one spot from the kickstand being so far back on the frame. I keep the kickstand down now while the bike is on the rack. A little touch up paint to the arm, and no further problem.
The cable locks aren't something I would depend on with an expensive bike. If I leave the bike for a short time unattended, I use a Kryptonite lock and a thicker cable wound around the rack and bike. But for securing garage sale or estate sale bargain bikes that you weren't expecting to be hauling, the rack cables are sufficient to impede theft a little bit. Yes, I have a "bike collection" problem and do that often.
I highly recommend this bike rack for its strength and ease of use.
