Sturdy and heavy-duty, but...
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•January 6, 2024
We bought this rack after researching a few different brands. We needed one to carry four bikes and wanted a good quality, sturdy one. We didn't care about cost and wanted the best thing we could find.
When it arrived, it was missing one of the four bolts for attaching the cross bars. I called Saris and they mailed me one free of charge.
This is the first bike rack we've owned. It is quite heavy, but from reading online reviews of other four-bike racks, this one appears to be one (if not THE) most light-weight ones out there. I was impressed that it can hold a significant amount of weight (60pounds/each bike on the first bar and 30pounds/each bike on the second bar). So, it's perfect for our family of four bikes.
It is pretty easy to get the bikes loaded in and seems to hold the bikes well. It feels stable driving around. No rattling around.
A few 'complaints': 1. The inner hitch brace thing is kinda poorly designed in that when you are trying to fit the rack into the hitch, if you tilt the rack up or down (which you're likely to do since the thing is so big and cumbersome), that hitch brace thing will fall out onto the ground or slide back. So, is definitely a two person job to get the rack into the hitch. I called Saris about it and the guy said that you could bend this piece a little so it will fit a little more snugly. Haven't tried it yet. 2. The plastic parts (wheel well, mounting straps) seem like they may wear pretty quickly (time will tell), but I guess I'll just have to get replacement parts when they break. The customer service for when I needed the replacement bolt was very good that I don't imagine I'll have a problem with replacing the plastic components when I need to go down that road in the future. 3. The wheel straps will easily fall into the wheel well if you forget to lift them up and tuck them out of the way when placing your bike in the wheel well. We've just made a family rule now that we need to tuck them out of the way once the bike is removed.
So, overall, happy with the purchase. Gave it five stars since there wasn't a 'four and a half' option. :) Deducted half a star due to the little annoyances as described above. Not sure what else out there is better. Happy it is made in USA.

Saris has thought of everything!

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to write this one. My last rack was a Saris rack and it was very universal at the time. I loved it! However, I started doing Triathlon and graduated to high end tri bikes and the old rack would not support the frame (there is no way Saris could have seen this coming, though!). Also, my old Saris rack was a dedicated 2 bike carrier. Now, I have 2 kids and I need to occasionally carrier a high end tri bike for my races, OR 2 adult road bikes, a 24in wheel bike, and a BMX. Plus, I need it to fold down so I can open my SUV hatch and fold up when not in use. I used to sell racks at a rack store when I was in college, so I have seen them all and was highly picky when choosing a new rack. I have to say that Saris has thought of everything and solved every problem on the Superclamp. It is truly universal. I'm amazed! The locking system is genius too. Yes, it is really really expensive, but worth every penny. It will serve my family well as we evolve through many bikes. Some reviews suggest that it is lighter in weight, and, yes, I suppose it could be heavier, but it is a beast of a rack. It requires a strong body and an ample storage space. Figure it out, though, because it is worth it. I am so impressed!
Great product, but came with broken tray

Saris products are great, and made in the USA. I was a little upset that it came with a broken tire tray, but Saris customer service took care of it right away. Could have happened in shipping, who knows.
Worth the price

We bought the Saris Superclamp 4 Ex after doing lots of research. We have three bikes that we transport for family bike outings so we needed a good rack. Because one of our bikes has an untraditional frame where the middle cross bar is virtually non-existent, we decided that the Saris Superclamp 4 Ex would be the best fit for us because the rack uses the tray method of securing bikes and it never touches the frame of the bike. The rack was extremely easy for my husband and I to install and it is very solid and does a great job of holding the bikes in place and traveling with it is easy.
Very Good Bike Rack

Very secure and heavy duty rack for carrying 4 mountain bikes. Other racks I researched only allowed 20lb bikes on the two outer carrying stations, which will limit you to only road bikes or kid bikes. This rack allows 35lb bikes to be carried on the two outer stations so you can carry four full size mountain bikes. The rack itself is easy to use and keeps the bikes held on securely.
