These fit 2 chairs in our office that were in need of replacement cylinders. You need to do a bit of measuring to make sure that you order the right size. Getting the old one out is a somewhat challenging, so I wouldn't recommend this job unless you are handy with a dead blow mallet. It is a 2 person job, also. Once installed these new ones work just great so far. The price is very reasonable as well.
This is a GREAT swap-out to make a chair more comfortable for a shorter person!!!

Just now swapped out this bad boy in a brand new Serta office chair we had recently purchased for my wife, works like a champ. The sales associate at the big box store where we bought the chair assured us that the broken floor demo model would go as low as some of the other Serta chairs on display, but once we got home and assembled it, we realized this wasn't the case. Because my wife had specifically selected this chair for particular comfort, I wanted it to work for her shorter stature. So instead of disassembling and returning the chair, I found and ordered this gas cylinder. Hopefully useful to others: the overall length of this cylinder was the exact same as the one it replaced, but what made the difference is the lowest point (below the base hold area) was about 3/4" longer than the one it replaced, allowing the chair to sit ~3/4" lower (just enough for my wife).

I've only used this for a couple of hours since installing it today right after it was delivered, but I couldn't be more pleased with it so far. It is stamped "Class 4" on the silver portion of the cylinder, which means that it is rated for 400 pounds. It does hang a lot lower than the one it replaced, my chair's center went from having maybe 1.75" of clearance to about 0.25", but that's okay and I knew that before I ordered it. In fact, it looks nearly identical to my old cylinder. Same overall length, diameter, etc. The only difference is the "neck" area where the black portion gets wider (above the "sink" area) is about 1.5 inches higher than my old one. That makes the chair's lowest position about 1.5" lower as well, which is perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for!

Worked great. I got 2 of these for 2 office chairs whose cylinders had stopped working. The cylinder itself fit well and worked like a charm. But, it was extremely frustrating installing them. Despite the videos online, it was not easy to remove the old cylinder from my chairs. I hammered and twisted and did pretty much anything I could think of to get the old cylinder out. So just be aware that if you intend on replacing yours, see if you'll be able to remove your old cylinder first. If you can, this cylinder is great. It comes are a great price and my staff was thrilled to get chairs that went up and down again.
A must for too high cylinders/chairs...just have to estimate your measurements.

Bought a new chair that appeared to be made for high desks and probably people 6'2" and up (hard to tell until I brought it home and placed in front of desk). Office chair also had a lot of seat cushion that placed it higher than the average chair. This 3" cylinder made the chair work perfectly for me and my desk height. Taking old cylinder off bottom of seat was not easy even though it was brand new. A rubber mallet helped removed from base and was not too hard. However, I had to take part off chair that held top of cylinder, spray with WD40 (soaked over night) on both ends and put in vice. Took a large plumbers wrench and keep twisting on silver rod until in finally removed.
