Quality Tire Pen IMHO
MX27✓ Verified PurchaseSeptember 6, 2023
Tried other brands of pens, even tried the tire stickers but Tire Ink so far has been the best.

I start by washing down the tires w strong concentrated soap like Mean Green or Simple Green, rinse and let dry thoroughly. Then I use a toothbrush dipped in acetone and scrub the lettering in different directions. See photos - Once dry I lay the tire horizontal on a rotating shop stool for ease in applying which allows me to lay the ink on heavy with minimal running, and I put on at least three (3) coats fully drying between those. I ink friend's tires as well since my system seems to work for everyone's bikes. Both yellow and green has worked for me.

It takes four or five hard mx track days before it starts to scrape off but once you have a solid base of color it's easy to touch up later. If you're an enduro rider rocks and branches will probably scrape it off sooner but for mx'ers it's good.

Probably the only way to get true permanent color is to have it done by the manufacturer during production using their equipment but most of us don't have that so this works great instead. I highly recommend.
Don’t Go As Far As Advertised

I ordered the red to color in the Firestone on a new set of tires. It's said that one pen will do two tires. That's kind of stretching the truth a bit. I wound up using a fat red permanent marker to start the lettering on the second tire and then finishing it with the pen. You have to be very careful also as the ink wants to run. After all the trouble, it was worth it because the tires look great. Now to see how long it lasts.

this marker doesn’t drip

Bought this for my fiancé. He's a mechanic. He needed a marker that doesn't drip and that would dry fast. Works perfect!
2 pens do not so 4 tires
Marc Kaddatz✓ Verified PurchaseAugust 5, 2023
I had to go back and order 6 more pens. 1.5 pens only did 1 tire for me.
