The material is of good quality. I bought it knowing it would be a little too long for my son but I was able to hem it up no problem. Because the material is if good quality I will be able to unhem it once he grows and he'll get lots of chances to use it in the future.

We bought this as part of a costume. It seems like maybe it is intended as a magician's coat, because of the red satin lining and the many pockets. We got a large size based on the recommendation, but found it to be long for our son, who is about 5'3" and who is normally a large in children's sizes. It dragged on the floor and was broad in the shoulder and chest, although I would not think it large enough for an adult man. Anyway, I hemmed it by about 2.5 inches and now it is about one-quarter of an inch off the ground. Our son loves it and it seems sturdy enough that it will hold up for a while for costume play and some outside wearing (although I don't really think it is intended as an outdoor garment.)

We were going for a scarecrow costume, it looked very Jedi/wizard. So we actually ripped it up to make it look more scarecrow. But it looked very sleek before we shredded it. It really would look great as a Jedi costume.
I seemed to be good quality, though you can see light through it if you hold it up, (we bought black).so ours not extremely thick, but it is opaque. The fabric is pretty soft. It did help with warmth, so for those in cold climates, this may be a good choice of costume.
