Don't Waste Your Time.
Ruthanne Beirne•February 4, 2018
Don't waste your time like I did. I thought, "Hey this has pretty good reviews and its so much cheaper than other models, I'll give it a try!" Don't. As previously mentioned the stir-plate throws the pill if speed is over 50% even in water. A tried a longer pill in hopes the larger stirrer would create enough turbulence even at low speeds, but the unit isn't powerful enough let alone to draw air into a full 2000ml flask. Buy once, cry once is my recommendation.

The magnets aren't quite strong enough to hold onto the stir bar at high speed, especially if there's any viscosity to the fluid.
As cheap as you can find, fired right up, stirring away for 2+ days constant now...

Awesome cheap alternative for someone doing home brew, etc and not a professional lab-grade device w/ hot plate at $200+ more initial cost. Won't stir at 100% with included stir bar (stir bar flies off due to viscosity, pops back onto center when dialed back to zero RPM) using my 1 liter Erlenmeyer flask and 100% polypropylene glycol, but does the job fine at lower RPM and I may have a cheap flask without perfectly round bottom so no stars off for that!
(also stirring water w/~100g powdered leaf just fine @ lower than max RPM, enough to make swirling tornado vortex at top, using to cut down on maceration time of infusion from two weeks to a few days prior to decanting and vacuum-filtering)
A+++ packaging, faster than fast arrival time even though it was during the holidays!

Nice for the home Brewer.
Toivo•January 8, 2018
Nice stir plate for a home Brewer who doesn't want to spend a ton of money. I brew 8 to 10 batches a year and don't always make a starter so I didn't want to spend a fortune on a stir plate. I saw this one and the reviews were good so I ordered it. Very happy with my purchase and it has worked great making starters for my lagers. For occasional use it works great and I recommend it.
Essential Kitchen Gadget
Selden Deemer•December 20, 2017
I inherited from my mother, a chemist, a small single-speed magnetic stirrer, which has been an essential kitchen appliance for decades. After more than 50 years, it died this year, and I found this for a replacement. It's much more powerful, and I suspect that highest speed would be enough to whip cream. The speed controller is a little tricky, starting the motor around 34% "” from there you can dial it back to a slow stir, or all the way up.
No kitchen should be without a magnetic stirrer; they are useful for jello, sauces, dissolving cornstarch, anything that requires constant stirring over a period time.
