i could never figure out how to use this so that a) it actually worked and b) i didn't experience dry, red, blotchy and burned spots on my face. it's either too much or not enough. after my most recent blotchy patches all over my right cheek (i used it one day on my chin only, the next day on my cheeks and forehead only), i threw it away. i feel like my skin was better without it. i gave it two stars because maybe there was user error and i didn't stick with it long enough. i just can't cover these patches with makeup and just can't walk around looking this way.

I am fully aware this product can cause "purging," but if I could go back in time and stop myself from ever buying this I would because it completely ruined my skin. After a couple of weeks or so of using it as directed, my skin is raw, peeling, huge clusters of big, painful cystic acne formed all over, I have scabs that reveal redness through various layers of skin. My face hurts so much I want to cry just looking at it and it is the worst it has ever been in my whole entire life. Before I started using this particular product I had a couple of very small pimples here and there, but for the most part my face was clear. I decided to take a chance and try this over the counter formula because I had previously used the Differin that is sold by prescription only. Differin 0.3 by prescription was amazing and cleared up my skin, the only reason I stopped using it was because with no insurance I could not afford the $400 a tube. I took a chance on this one thinking it was going to be the same, but it is not. The main difference is this formula contains 0.1 Adapalene vs. the 0.3 adapalene formula you receive by Rx only. When I used the Rx only formula I never even had a purging stage, but this particular one destroyed me. The insert says that it may take up to 3 months to see results, but I cannot keep on using it because my skin is the worst I've ever seen it an it is simply not worth it. My skin hurts even just laying down on my pillow. I don't have sensitive skin and I used 10% glycolic and 2% salicylic acid prior to this, and used retinoid serums and peels so my skin is pretty tough. I don't mean to discourage anyone who wishes to try it as we all respond differently to medication, but be aware that this may actually worsen your acne and leave your skin in a worse state than when you started. .

Do Not Use Differin Gel for acne .. it's the new thing out that you can use for adults in the commercial , or totally broke my face out ..to the point where I could not recognize myself in like one day ... I will share my pic so you guys know not to use it... now I gotta spend 125 for a cream from my doc so this is a warning... some girls will probley be like omg she posted this pic of her , yes because im not fake lol

This product burned my skin. I wore it once a day after washing my face and then followed up with a moisturizer. I noticed that when I put make up on my face it would sting like i was putting make up on an open wound. There was no discoloration or noticeable scarring just open pores and a stinging of the skin as i would apply any type of make up. I then changed to putting differin on to once every other day or so but, still the same thing. I lived in Florida so even though I would put on sunscreen I was still afraid to go out into the sun with my skin being so sensitive from using the differin. I just stopped using it all together. Also there was no immediate results of acne relief.

I had high hopes for this treatment - to finally not have to use benzoyl peroxide and stain towels/pillows/clothes! I started out using the Differin cleanser and moisturizer with the Differin gel. My face actually improved the first two weeks, but I knew that was too good to be true. I've used the gel exactly as directed without skipping a single day. Luckily I never had a bad reaction (redness/stinging/peeling), other than a little dryness. My face started purging in the third week and hasn't really stopped. I broke out all over my face, jawline and neck. I kept reading reviews and telling myself I could make it 12 weeks to really give this time to work. Around week 6, I switched from the Differin cleanser/moisturizer to another gentle cleanser, daily lotion and something a little more moisturizing for night. Around week 9 my face got a little better, where I didn't have new white heads every single day. However, I still get pimples regularly and my skin is extremely bumpy and uneven. I hate even touching it. I really hoped that a miracle might happen by week 12, but that's not the case. My face looks worse than it has in years. I'll be switching to something else.
