Durable, reusable and easy to set and place without tripping it.

Very durable. They hold up well after many uses. But that might be because it takes many uses to finely kill a rat. I think there's too much travel in the trigger mechanism which tips the rat off. I bought 4 and set them up first night. Next morning , all 4 had been triggered. All bait was gone, only one had a rat caught in it and it was still alive but not looking. I had been using the standard wooden traps before, with great success. The wooden ones seem to have a faster action but not so durable. Aside from durability, these metal traps have a nice safety feature which makes setting and placing them a carefree experience

This product is outstanding. I've used all kinds of rat traps, and some times I get them but a lot of times I don't.
The first night the rat wouldn't go in, but the second night I had feed in front of the cage, and then some way in back inside. I used a long wooden spoon to place the bat on the plate. The next morning the door was shut, and the rat was inside.
What you do with it next is up to you, just be careful of there teeth. The wire that sticks straight up on the door is a good handle to hold on to and pick up the cage and the rat for transportation.
I've heard of some people when they catch them will take them out away from there home and turn them loose, others submerge them under water using a tuber.

Much more likely to catch your fingers than a rat
Tony G.✓ Verified Purchase•February 14, 2018
Not dependable and possibly dangerous to your fingers. The trap may be metal but it is is very flimsy, especially the trigger wire which easily bends out of shape, including by the pressure from the springs. The thin metal tongue which hold the bait rises to high for rats or mice to actually step on. When you adjust it down, the catch for the trigger wire, which is just a dimple in the metal, will not hold. The trap will either not fire or fire too easily depending on slight changes in the curvature of the thin trigger wire. The only positive is that is has a safety catch, which your a well advised to use and only release when everything is set in place.

This trap worked the very first night. Previously, I had spent upwards of $100.00 on other types of traps with no success. I decided to try this one. Oddly enough, I had an ant exterminator at my house that morning. When I share my problem with him, he told me he could take care of the problem for an additional $100.00. I showed him the trap and he turned his nose up at it. Least to say, the next morning, he was the first person I sent a picture to of the "trapped rat". We took the rat for a joy ride 12 miles out and let it go in the field. This trap has my seal of approval.
Good trap but rather dangerous to learn how to use as the edges are sharp.

As a trap these work well enough to catch rats. I like that there's the safety catch so they don't get set off while I'm putting them in place. My complaint is the edges are very sharp - while I was figuring out how they worked and how to set them, putting the lever under pressure, they snapped a few times and each time cut my hand pretty deeply. I suggest you wear sturdy gloves while you figure out how these work if you are new to mousetraps, and always use the safety catch until they are in place.
