This product utilizes, largely, trifluralin, a pre-emergent herbicide - this essentially means that the product prevents seeds from sprouting. Spreading it around trees and shrubs therefore results in a decrease (or elimination) of weed growth so long as the product is distributed prior to sprouting. The product shouldn't be used near aquatic life, so if you live on a riverbank or have an outdoor fish pond, you may wish to look elsewhere. The product itself is composed of small easily seen yellow beads which dissolve into the soil or mulch where they've been spread upon watering. The cap contains a spreader, so you simply open the cap and shake the container to spread the beads. This is easily accomplished and the container is light enough for use over the five to ten minutes that it takes to use it up. Obviously, you won't use this on your lawn or wherever you might have desirable ground cover, nor will you use this in gardens where you plan on planting seed, but trifluralin works quite well around shrubs and trees without causing any negative impact on the existing growth.

Have always used Preen and love it.
Don't know if this will last 6 months but will test it this summer.

I don't know why it took me so long to find this product it works great.

Put my Preen Extended Control on. Easy applicator provided even coverage. Since it is a pre emergent I will have to wait to see how well it works but since I've used other Preen products over the years I fully expect this one to be just as great!
