I’ve had just about every version a TiVo since first introduced, but this one is by far the worst version ever.

Upgraded from from TiVo BOLT 1TB to get 4K for a new 4K TV... Worst mistake ever.
The new menu is designed for those who love to push buttons! Now takes a minimum of 7 button presses to get a recorded movie to play (Used to take 3) To play a recorded show: push TiVo Botton, select My Shows, Step passed the pretty pictures of the shows you've recorded, step over the option to see a list of partially watched shows, step thru the menu of show types, and your finally on your list of shows. All recorded shows are in groups now even when there is only a single episode (another extra button push). And now your finally on the show you want to watch - but wait, now you have to select from another menu of Delete, Play, Keep, Bookmark, etc - yippy, you can now get the recording to play...
TiVo also loves to give you messages while you're watching you shows. If you watching in delay (you know so you can skip past all those commercials) and tuner thinks it's now recording the next show, it will pop up with a message to let you know, but usually with a "Title unavailable".
Another sad message that gets really annoying is "having a problem with the signal: V53". We have Charter/Spectrum, which unlike Satellite which drops out during bad weather (according to Charter), their service drops out during any kind of weather. Every time there is a hiccup you'll get a message that last so long it thinks it needs to go into "screen saver mode" and start floating all over the screen.
One the things that's great about recorded shows, is the "Skip" function. It is so nice to be to just hit the skip button and instantly jump over commercials. Really works great. The problem, the buttons that are closest to each other (almost touching) are Skip and NetFlix... NetFlix? (TiVo must have received a huge payout for that one.) So you're into your show and the commercial starts and you go for the Skip button only to now see your Netflix login... Okay, back out of NetFlix to get back to your show, but no - you have start over to get your show up and find the position where left off, because TiVo thinks you gave up on your show to go do something else.
And how about the guide itself... This has been getting worse and worse over the years but their latest issue seems to be with the ability to identify new episodes. A show that aired two weeks ago will show up as "New", or a particularly episode may show up as "New" for days on end. But it really get frustrating when you set a "One Pass" for show and it will only record the "encore" presentation (it thinks is new) airing just before the actual new episode, which it won't record because it thinks it is the one it just recorded, in fact when you try to record the new one it will ask if you want to "re-record" the show already recorded. In some cases it just has the wrong information (week after week) and I have to go to the network web site to get the real show times. (Ex: "How the universe works" on Science channel, Tuesdays, it will record the episode at 7:04PM when the actual showing is at 10:10PM. TiVo menu show identical listings for both times, but the earlier one is last weeks. TiVo won't record the 10:10 showing using One Pass. The Science Channel web site list correct listings)
Another negative on the program guide - a few years ago TiVo changed their channel guide menu provider from a really good source to this current flop. These guide entries usually have more opinion than description. By the time they have finished telling you how good or exciting, or funny they thought this was and all the actors and guests appearing they've run out room to describe what its about.

So, even though I've only had this new upgraded TiVo box a few months, and have paid my lifetime subscription fees just to get the 4K version, I'm considering trashing the whole thing.
Some improvements, some changes to get used to, but overall great dvr

So I've had TiVo boxes for close to 20 years now starting with DirecTV and now with FIOS service. Overall the box gets 4 stars and I mostly knocked it down due to the price (or what you get for the price). The main reason I went with the 3TB box is that it allowed for the 6 tuners and as I had a few minis, I did not want to run into issues where I couldn't watch tv due to the wife and kids taping or watching their own shows. If you've used TiVO before, you get everything you've come to love. The menus are different and take some getting used to but the speed is quick. The FIOS dvr box crawls, this box blows that DVR away. Voice control was done very well and works seamlessly (once the remote is paired)
1. Remote is not back lit - sorry but come on! Every no frills remote nowadays is lit. For the price this remote should be as well. In addition, they added new buttons so the familiar tivo remote is a bit different. Having a light up remote would be great.
2. Back button - The new remote has a back button now, before you could just arrow back. That takes some getting used to but the arrow seemed to be a lot simpler with no need for a separate button
3. Pairing the remote - on 2 boxes, the remote was not paired with the box (this one and minis). Now the remote worked for basic features but things like voice control did not work until you paired it with the box. Had to contact support for this and there is about a 10 step process that has to be done. Once complete, voice and remote work great
4. Dust magnet. If you use a swiffer duster, dont even think about using it on this box. This thing is like a giant magnet for dust. Pulled it right from the duster.
5. Had to return the first unit as it died 6 hours in - hard drive failure...it happens but still
Years of going downhill have reached the endpoint: a product so bad it will make you wish you had a cablebox.

This thing might be OK in concept, but it manages to get worse on a regular basis. It took nearly a week to set up in the first place, which was a bad enough experience, and which included the words "We're sorry - we're working on a software fix for that at this time." more times than I can count. But after months of consistently getting slower on its own by way of, probably, software updates, it has now reached the point at which whether it works or not is largely a matter of luck, or weather, or some quantum anomaly that can not be detected by me. Tonight it doesn't play any of my videos at all. It just spins a blue circle. This applies to three Tivo minis and to the main Tivo Bolt Vox. I can watch live TV on them, but can not watch any of the recorded shows. I don't have the words for a system that can't provide even its core functionality. As somebody who has owned a Tivo since literally the very first Sony model, I can not emphasize enough: "STAY AWAY!"
It doesn't work.

I've had Tivos for as long as they've been sold and this one was just a Lemon. One Tivo I had for 8 years and it just wore out but never broke. The '[Bolt Vox' had trouble from day one. Even after spending a few hours on with Tivo service it never worked. It would go to black screen or freeze many times a day and would have to reboot. I was so frustrated with this it almost made me go to Cables DVR's. I will give the more expensive one a try it because I love Tivos. But they have to work.
TiVo Bolt - Cablecard not pairing is a TiVo problem, not your cable company
JJS✓ Verified PurchaseJanuary 1, 2018
TiVo and their Bolt gets 1 star from a 12+ year customer. I purchase this Bolt for my husband.

The Bolt is still not working, and he likes the Comcast Service Representative better than the TiVo Representatives. TiVo has not been quick to offer to replace this unit and has been slow at agreeing that the unit needs to be replaced until at least 5 cablecards have been tried in the TiVo Bolt.

He did the set up and pick up a cablecard from Comcast, spent 30 minutes pairing and could not get it paired, V66. They asked for him to pick up another card or they would ship him one.

He went back picked up another card, the proceeded to the pairing with Comcast and then a three-way call with TiVo. We tried the new card, the card from out our TiVo Premier (okay after this did not work, they should have offered to replace our TiVo), moved the TiVo upstairs, disconnected the cable splitters, thumbs downed, thumbs up, play play and other ideas for 2 hours. Nothing worked, and Comcast really stayed on the line with me through it all. We did go to the TiVo web site to be sure that we requested the latest software update.
Next day, software updated, and he still has a V66 error.

He just picked up another cablecard from Comcast and he still has the same V66. Speaking to Comcast and TiVo, he actually has to tell TiVo he wants another box, they have not offered to replace our box. They asked where I purchased it and when he told them Amazon they told us we had to return this box to Amazon and ask for a replacement. He has asked for a supervisor. We are now told that if we cannot return the box to Amazon there are two options.

Standard exchange, return our defective box and then TiVo will send us a new box once TiVo receives our defect box.
Advance exchange, he pay a deposit of $299.99 and they will ship him a new TiVo and he will get it in 4-5 business days.
He can pay for overnight shipping for $22.59 but only gives you overnight from FedEx, TiVo still needs 2-3 business days.

We are now 8 days into our new contract after being with TiVo since Jan 2006 or longer (had two accounts), and another 1.5 hour phone call, no seriously. He has been on the phone now for over 5 hours to get this Bolt working and he will be waiting another 4-5 business days.

So here we go, paid $324.74 for the deposit, oops they forgot to mention plus tax for the advance exchange. He opted out to pay the extra $22.59 for overnight shipping. But once he gets everything hooked up and working they will credit him $14.99 for one month of service!
