New Favorite Substrate - No Cleaning Needed
Gabriel B.✓ Verified PurchaseFebruary 9, 2024
I used to exclusively buy Seachem Flourite Black Clay Gravel which is 15 lbs for $35. I would have to clean and clean but wanted to do a white sand tank and that's how i came across this.

For $25 and you get 20 lbs, no cleaning needed! I was ecstatic. I opened my first bag and started to rinse it and realized its crystal clear. I was like NOOO WAY. So much time saved. I went and dumped all (5) 20 lb bags into my 75 gallon tank that i was setting up. Clear with no issues.
The only minor thing is that this sand is great at catching air bubbles. Some of it may clump up but honestly, that will likely sort itself out over time. This is my new favorite substrate. Very happy with the product.
Wet it down first

Love how white this sand is and love that it stays white. It's fine but not so small that it just turns to dust. But it can float when you first add water to the tank. Wetting the sand first helps a ton. Minimal cloudiness
White Sand?

I'm not entirely convinced this is sand. Regardless, it's a substrate that looks the part and does the job.

I did read a negative review on Petco (Imagitarium is the Petco store brand). I had already purchased this product so I decided to investigate for myself. I could not reproduce the problem the person on Petco experienced. The person claimed that this sand raised the pH of his water from 7.2 (tap) to 8.8 (tank). It's been an entire week now that I'm writing this. My 75 gallon tank is completely clear and the pH, while it did change from the tap, has not changed significantly enough to remotely worry about. This is all without any filtration. Honestly, if you're buying 20 lbs (I bought 2 bags) at a time for an obviously large tank, you can afford to buy a small bottle of pH regulator and some water clarifier if it in fact does cloud your water.

Petco obviously sells a lot of this stuff so it's not uncommon to have a few duds. If you check the Petco website, 8 bad reviews isn't bad.
I like it

Yes there was floaters but all you have to do is push it down and it will sink or take it out. Look nice and clean and after while the fog will clear
