This held my injury well and was comfortable. I'd recommend
Suggest redesign to reduce breakage

I wear the small size on my left hand and really love the brace. Eventually, the small piece of plastic that makes up the outer part of the H-opening broke off and I had to order a replacement. I like this brace as well, but am frustrated that two pieces of the velcro strap have to be fed (stuffed) through the outer part of the H-opening. The two straps fit so tightly in that opening that It is difficult to pull the long strap tight enough to make a snug fit. Given all that pulling, the strap stitching is already starting to tear. I would prefer a redesign of the current H-opening end in a way that doesn't require so much pulling. That in itself, would contribute to the product breaking less frequently.
I'm so glad I bought this!

My MP joint has been very sore, even painful to the touch. I have arthritis in the joint that acts up occasionally, but this was different. I think I sprained it. I was using a soft style thumb brace which was helping some but I didn't keep it in consistently cuz I'm a compulsive hand washer and it was a pain to keep taking it off. I decided to try this one cuz it is smaller, a hard brace, and can be kept on while washing hands. Two days later and my thumb is soooo much better. Granted, the inside does get wet when I wash my hands but I can easily dry it and don't necessarily have to take it off to do that. Plus since it's hard I don't have to worry about getting it dirty while I'm making dinner, etc, cuz I can easily wash it and put it right back on. I don't use the optional sleeve all the time. I started with it but decided to try the brace w/o the sleeve and it's fine. I was hesitant to spend thirty five bucks on a thumb brace when my other ones have cost ten to fifteen bucks. But this was definitely worth getting. I'm so glad I got it. TIP: the Velcro section that is the sticky part to close it is very strong and will quickly stick to your clothes and snag them. So, as soon as you open up the brace, simply fold that section to stick it to the other section of Velcro before removing the brace. Line it up carefully cuz even the edges can catch your clothes! Learn from my mistakes. 😉. I saw another reviewer said it's not meant for someone who has to move their wrist. I have no problem moving my wrist! I can type with this brace on, use the dumbbells during exercise class, etc. I haven't found anything that I couldn't do with this on. Measure your top thumb knuckle to make sure you get the right size. If close to the next size go with the smaller size. I was surprised when I measured to a small according to their chart. But I ordered the small and it's perfect. A medium would've been way too big.
Does what it's intended. Do not wear if need wrist activity.

This is meant to immobilize and stabilize the thumb. Which it definitely does very well!
It will allow you to move your thumb very slightly so you still maintain ability to grasp/pinch/hold things. However, the design is not conducive to any activity that also requires you flex your wrist a lot.
I needed to wear this to stabilize my thumb, but I needed to wear it during activities that also required wrist flexion. The end of the brace sits well below the base of the thumb (supporting the CMC joint), so any wrist flexion causes the brace to compress against the wrist. This end of the brace is thin but rigid, so the first couple of times this happens, no big deal.... but repeated contact against the wrist and you'll start to notice abrasions/bruising before you know it.
I was even wearing the provided sleeve to help, which definitely helped with the abrasions but it didn't do much to keep my wrist from getting sore from the continuous contact against the edge of the brace.
Only knocking off 1 star - because it definitely is a high quality brace and it immobilizes and stabilizes the thumb very well! It's pretty comfortable and supportive as long as you keep your wrists neutral...
...If you find yourself needing wrist flexion like I did, might want to consider sizing down (although based on the sizing recommendations, this wouldn't have worked for me as I never would have been able to get my thumb through the opening as it barely fits through the current size).
So, other than a little limitation in terms of it's application, never-the-less, this is a high quality product that works very well as described.

Helps support torn UCL
Katie✓ Verified Purchase•November 26, 2023
I've had a torn ligament (UCL) in my thumb for over 3 months due to a bike accident.
Of course it hurt at first, but since the pain went away I'm now left with a thumb that feels unstable and almost "dangly" most of the time. My gripping power is basically gone and simple things like using a pepper grinder are practically impossible now. I've tried a few thumb braces and either they didn't fit right or they hurt. So I switched over to KT tape which made it feel much more supported. But I need more since my job is super physical- warehouse work at a food bank- so I need more than just tape.
I decided to give this a try. It seems to be just the right thing for my situation. My thumb is mostly immobilized and feels secure and I can still operate warehouse equipment. It's pretty comfortable and fits a bit loose just like they say. That's great because I can still wear my tape and put the brace over it (instead of using the liner that comes with it). I can also wear it over my biking gloves. I've come up with sort of a modular system I guess- as shown in the photos. Certain things are kind of "clunky" like the car steering wheel, and using a keyboard, but that's the whole point - to immobilize the problem area and let it heal.
And it definitely makes me feel better about my bike commute.
I have a long road ahead with this injury but this just might be the thing that helps heal my torn UCL.
