Easy assembly, especially with power tools
Joanne G✓ Verified PurchaseApril 27, 2018
As promised. I carefully read all reviews, especially the negative one, which cautioned that it might arrive out of square and bent. I admit I was nervous because I bought a returned (discounted) item. The box was very rough looking, heavily taped. but everything inside was in perfect condition: well cushioned and shrink-wrapped. I could have assembled it with hand-tools (time-consuming), but my grandson was available, and it was his gift.
Everything was square and with his power tool it was assembled in 30 minutes.
I am sure that it will be sturdy enough for the large climbing rose it is intended to support. I have other heavy-duty obelisks and I like the very long pins to pound into the soil to stabilize everything. We have a heavy loam, so I am not worried. Cannot guess how it will function in very sandy soils.
A good product by H. Potter
Looked like a clearance item

Package arrived on my doorstep, although not torn it looked worn, banged up and not in such good shape.

Began assembly with the lower base units, loosely bolting everything together. Moving to the middle sections, notice one of the four sections one arm slightly bent outwards, was able to manipulate it enough to bring all four sections together. This brought the section slightly out of square, however, figured it would square up once we assembled all the pieces together.

The final section of curved pieces, one of the sections was dented causing about a 4 inch bend up and to the side of the other three. Our mistake for not completely unwrapping, inspecting and then beginning the assembly process. This took two of us pretty much all we had to flex this piece into place in order to match up and connect with the top coupling piece. This section was significantly out of square! We worried if we would be able to align it with the center section. We decided to try and put it all together as it would be more work to disassemble and find new packaging for a return. The packaging it arrived in was in extremely poor shape and would not make a return trip in one piece.

Also, the male ends of the top and middle sections were significantly rusty assuming they had been exposed to some moisture over time. In any case, with some moderate effort we were able to put the middle section into the base section. This helped square up the middle section too. The top section into the middle section required enormous twisting and several attempts of two people in order to get all four legs aligned and into the female ends. While loosening the bolts even more to allow more play. There was one hole not threaded as bolt would move in and out of the hole freely. Would estimate it took twice as long to assemble over a unit that all the pieces fit together.

Bolting it all together did square things up but does have some mild "twist" in the top curved piece. We hope that over time it will relax some and relieve some of the stress. It is in the garden and looks good from a distance, you do not see the dented portion of the unit unless you are up close.

Overall, would think this is a good product. Just think we were shipped a dent and scratch unit that probably was sitting in inventory somewhere that they were able to get rid of and we paid full price for it. What we got definitely would be considered a "clearance item" anywhere else from the condition it was in.

Would we buy from this seller again "“ NO
Would we pay over $200 for this unit again - NO
Sturdiest garden accessory I have ever purchased

Before I bought this I referred to the reviews and they convinced me to buy it. The box was quite heavy but it arrived in great shape and the contents were individually plastic-wrapped and packaged with cardboard reinforcements for protection.
The top, middle, and bottom sections consist of four units each that have a vertical pipe with horizontal pipes welded to it so you just take each unit and connect it to the others with the screws provided.
I found it easiest to connect in pairs so that they could free stand whilst I connected the four units together. The units connect with the horizontal tubes pointing in a counter-clockwise manner because the ends of the horizontal tubes have a slightly longer edge on the outside where they meet the vertical tube (see photos.)
I built the top section first and tightened it up because the top finial took some pulling and pushing at the apex of the curved pipes to align it to the tube holes and get the screws in and tightened. I made the middle and bottom sections but kept the screws loose. I attached the top to the middle first so that later I wouldn't have to reach up high to put the top on. The tube tip of the middle section inserts into the tube bottom of the top section with the screw passing through both so it may take some pushing and pulling to get all four tubes aligned, mated and screws passed through. Once all three sections were together I walked around and tightened alternating screws until all were tight.
I was quite impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of this garden obelisk. This obelisk is extremely sturdy - no climbing vegetable plant, even with 10 20lb suspended pumpkins, is too heavy for this thing (as long as you anchor it well.)
This HPotter item is well engineered, the tubes, holes, and screws aligned quite well and I didn't find any issues. The finish is antiqued and seems thick enough to withstand weather and even the screws are antiqued to match.
My previous purchases of garden accessories have usually been disappointing due to the low quality at a high price but after seeing this I reckon that HPotter is stricter than most on establishing manufacturing standards and assessing and maintaining quality at their factory (in India as indicated on the box.) I will definitely consider purchasing other garden items in the future from HPotter after this first very satisfying experience!
22May18 update to answer a question about dimensions - 13 3/4 inch square but horizontal tabs at bottom to anchor the obelisk make each side about 16inches (sorry can't measure directly as they are submerged in soil!)

This obelisk provides an outstanding garden feature. I have a major wheeler honeysuckle planted to climb it. The obelisk is well-made and provides the height and stability needed. I am 70 and was able to assemble the obelisk and carry it to its garden home by myself. Thank you for designing and producing such a great obelisk! Many of my gardening friends were very impressed!
Well designed and extremely sturdy garden tower

The H Potter Chic Farming Tall Flower Garden Tower is a wonderful addition to my rose garden. I have purchased several of these excellent garden towers in the past and will undoubtedly be purchasing another in the near future since they are the most sturdy and well designed I have found. Thank you H Potter.
