Been using this as a desk lamp for a few years now. Big advantage is having it not take up desk space aside from a few sq inches for the control dial.
One star lost because the ambient light sensor doesn't seem to do anything.
Being able to control brightness and being able to adjust from a cool white to a warm white is a nice feature, especially when sketching designs out on paper before drawing them in AutoCAD.

It's not rock solid but doesn't need to be - balances nicely with the counterweight. My office has poor lighting in it, so this is a great addition, allowing me to see clearly what's on my desk between my keyboard and the monitor, without casting any light on the screen of the monitor itself.
