Smooth & no lag

Remote we received with our Dish system had somewhat of a lag between pressing the button and response of the unit (enough to be annoying). Already had one of these remotes on the Joey in the bedroom and enjoyed the voice control and key lay-out, so it was an easy choice.

Good features except for single power button

This new version re arranged the top two rows of buttons to make them bigger and easier to access, great! The voice command actually works! The backlighting is nice. The learning feature could be nice too, If you always use your tv and dish together, then this remote is a good choice. BUT, if you want to turn off your Dish to stream on your smart tv or use a dvd player etc then there is a problem. There is only ONE Power switch and it works tv and Dish together. Also, for some reason Dish counts down 5 minutes before it actually turns off (sleep mode). So don't touch any buttons once you think you have turned off your Dish receiver or it comes back on. Of course you don't know that or see the countdown timer, because your tv has already gone off. This single power button is NOT a feature! You can use voice command to turn off the Dish, but then you will still need another remote to turn off your tv. You will need two remotes! I'm still hoping I can find a work around but nothing yet. Hence only 3 stars.

The two features of this remote which make it a winner are (1) backlit keyboard, and (2) single power button, which turns both DVR and TV on or off with a single tap. The big feature, Voice Command, is a cute novelty, but I cannot see myself using it on a regular basis. It is great for finding a little used channel for which you do not know the number, but features like "skip forward" are better handled by a button. Easy to install and customize. Very pleased.

This is what the DISH remotes should have always been. The lighted keys are simply awesome. They turn on for a few seconds after either picking up the remote, or shaking it a bit. It's the height of laziness! There is a voice button you need to hold down, but the text to speech is perfect. It works better than my Iphone. It's super easy to match to your Hopper too. Takes like a minute. And for only 20 bucks and change! You have to upgrade to this. Worth every penny.

As a 25 year convert from DirecTV whose remotes usually only last about a year, these voice option remotes are a great improvement. I added a second outdoor TV to my upper deck Joey to simply duplicate the same signal to a lower level deck without paying for a second Joey so annother remote was needed. Easy to link to the same Joey but pair to the other TV so both remotes can work independently on one Joey.
