The reason for the 4-star rating is for one reason, you can't find extra accessories for this particular model. With that said it's an excellent machine, and I really love, love, love this dehydrator. One thing I really like it has the automatic shut off timer. I gave away my 12 shelves; Nesco with all the accessories I could easily purchase with no problem. I haven't stop using my dehydrator since I received it.

I purchased this because I like to eat dried strawberries and kale chips but the cost was becoming outrageous for a tiny amount of food especially for organic. I was looking for a made in the USA product that was also BPA free. This was one of the only BPA free models I could find although it is not made in the US. I cant stress how important it is to purchase a product that is BPA free when that product heats up and touches your food. This includes tea kettles, tea strainers, and anything you cook with. Do believe that the plastic breaks down somewhat and taints the food with whatever chemical is in the plastic. I would've preferred steel but also be aware that a lot of foreign metal products contain lead so you need to find either BPA free plastic or metal certified free of lead. I used this so far for apples, strawberries, bananas, and blackberries (dont recommend blackberries). This fit a pint blackberries, a pint of strawberries, 2 bananas, and 2 apples all at once. I would recommend it. Make sure you run it AND wash it before using as written in the instructions. My product arrived taped shut with packing tape, clearly opened so suspicious but no signs of use.

Before purchasing this dehydrator, I researched at least 20 dehydrators and read reviews for all of them. My main reasons for selecting this item was price, it's one of few BPA free dehydrators, and because of how much food could fit on the trays. Once I opened the box, I knew I had made the right choice. It's made of good quality plastic, is quiet when being used, and it dries fast and well! I have used it several times. Many batches of collard greens and bananas so far, more to come. If I ever need another one, I will get this same exact one! Very pleased! Friendly note- the manual has quite a few grammatical errors, but it's easy to understand.
