I ordered a $20 foam pad from Amazon thinking that it would work the same as this one, which I had used at my PTs office. Just had total knee replacement on both knees, and I am able to get on my knees using the Airex, so figured that I would get one for the home. Purchased a much less expensive foam pad, and there is nothing really wrong with it...except it seemed to hurt my knees more than the Airex at my PTs office. I mean, they are both just foam...but the less expensive unit just hurt enough that I could not use it. It might be a tad stiffer, so I went and ordered this one and tried it immediately upon arrival, and sure enough, I was able to kneel on it. Side by side they are pretty close, but the Airex compresses further than the cheaper unit, and I guess that is what makes the difference.
At this time, I am only using it for range of motion, as I am 6 weeks post op, but I was using it as 3 weeks. I have yet to use it for balance, as we are still focused on range of motion, so I use it to try and bend further into child's pose.
Again, you get what you pay for in this case...Oh, and my PT says he has had his for 10 years now, and it is holding up great. And being a PT office, I am certain that it gets used a lot...
