Legit low oxalate/ high nitrate supplement
Amazon Customer✓ Verified Purchase•July 6, 2023
I discovered recently that arugula is an excellent source of nitrates. Unlike beet or spinach, arugula is very low in oxalates which is important for those concerned with kidney stones.
I tested the contents of these arugula capsules to see just how much nitrate they really have. I compared the powder to fresh arugula, adjusting for water content. I used nitrate test strips in distilled water.
Not the most precise test, but the results were good enough for me. It turned our that the powder had as much ntrate as fresh arugula (adjusted for water content).
Using numbers from the internet for fresh arugula, I calculated the amount of nitrate in two of these capsules as 72 mg. That is as much nitrate as in 2.4 oz of beet juice.
However, 2.4 oz of beet juice has 46 mg of oxalate, Two capsules of arugula powder with the same anount of nitrate have 1 mg of oxalate!
