I am not a child boxer but I bought this because I wanted something fun to do that would help my hand eye coordination and give me a little exercise while I was nursing a broken foot/ankle. It is not easy at first, but it was exactly what I needed-got the heart rate going a little while I widely thrashed my arms. I learned a lot about myself such as I don't like being hit in the face with a ball. It got easier over time. For fun, video record yourself trying to punch the ball and speed up the reply with background dance music-all your friends will laugh (or at least my two friends did; and if your friends don't laugh at your funny videos, they probably weren't your friend to begin with).
