Good Chipping Practice Mat
J. R. McBride✓ Verified Purchase•April 7, 2018
I like this mat. It's three cuts of "grass" attached together. The "rough" cut is great as the grain can be against you or with you by rotating the mat. The medium tight cut is pretty representative of lush tight fairway or fringe grass. The thin tight cut I guess represents an extreme tight lie but I find it less than useful as it plays far too hard.
The big negative is the imbalance between the level of your feet and the top surface of the mat. You must choke down on your grip to accommodate.
I see this as only a chipping/pitching mat. A full swing on such a small mat with your feet at a separate level is just not practical. But, it's a good mat for practicing your short game. I've got mine on a weather protected porch hitting to a chipping net in the yard.

I really enjoy hitting off this turf

I really enjoy hitting off this turf. I have been practicing chipping, and the lower, smooth part emulated closely the greens then the fairway found on a lot of northern California courses. The fairway grass seems to be a little too long but I use it as light rough. I think it is a little stiff to be considered fairway. The driving green is perfect except that you have to use a short tee. The longer tees lacks stability but is useable. Setting it straight so that the balls weight does not tip it over. Lastly, I wish it was a little bit larger. Besides those little nuances I think this is a very good product and my game is really starting to come along since I am able to practice more in my backyard on a daily basis.
Great value

This is a great value. I had been looking at many golf mats and bought this one based on the reviews. It is all you need to practice hitting off the turf. It is heavy enough and has the rubber backing that keeps it in place on contact. The three levels of turf simulate tight lies to fluffy lies. If you use plastic practice balls, you can practice in your garage in the colder months or when it is raining. Would definitely recommend.
Solid, portable, perfect size to put anywhere.

I finally broke down and bought a hitting mat after doing some research at stores, online and from friends. This works perfect for at-home or some driving ranges with artificial turf to hit from. At home, I set it on the patio and chip into the yard. You can put tees in the darker side, the rough is the rough, I use it for chipping, as well as the clean section. It helps for practice and now my backyard looks like a driving range when I'm finished, which is ok. I've already chipped well over 300 balls off of the 'rough' and 'clean' side and they are holding up well. It doesn't really slide unless you chunk into it, but it's heavy enough to stay put. I like it. Now I need a net.
Excellent for working any type of stroke (with a little add on)

Fantastic mat! Obviously very well made. The "rough" is a little short and the ball sits up in it a bit unless pressed and worked in but you can hit down into it nicely and it feels great! Just a bit of resistance. I do use two door mats to match level as it will sit a touch above your feet but it's minimal and choking up a bit works too. As to tees not staying put, I used a couple of alligator style picture frame hangers, a small eye screw (bent to 90°) some hot glue and tape to create a press in tee base on which cut plastic tees can be screwed. (See images) No modification of the mat needed at all.
