I got the 5 shelf style. I didn't expect the metal bars to come in 2 pieces on each side; I thought it would be one long metal piece on each side. That being said, I was a little surprised that I had to screw the bottom portion (the bottom 2 rungs) with the top portion (3 rungs) and the bars don't align perfectly. I think it makes the shelf look a bit cheap, even though the price tag isn't. The shelves themselves as others have said are hard plastic, although they look like wood from afar - as long as you don't touch/knock on it. The feet are adjustable, but the whole shelf is not very heavy so it doesn't feel entirely stable. There was 1 hole on one of the shelves that was too big; screws would fall right out of it. I left it as is. Assembly was easy, the instructions were very straightforward. Extra screws are included, and a package of cable ties to fasten the shelf to the wall for additional security.

Great looking book case for the money. The wood is not real, but you can almost be fooled even when standing right next to it. Even when touching it, the texture is pretty close to real wood. So, it doesn't bother me that the panels are actually plastic. If you assemble it carefully, and according to the instructions, it goes together with a very solid feel. And, the adjustable leveling feet allow it to sit solidly on the floor even if the floor isn't perfectly flat.

This bookshelf is great for anyone moving into a new space (or re-doing an old space) because it is easy to assemble and pretty light in box. The materials feel very good quality and during assemble it was clear how well made the pieces are (for example: everything fits together perfectly, note the directions for assembly). Beware: it will elevate your space and give you "Restoration Hardware Vibes" and you may end up wanting to purchase a bunch more beautiful, high quality and more expensive pieces like it. This bookshelf looks great with pieces on display as well for storage and easy access to stuff. It also looks good with similar but different wood tones and other earthy/natural colors and textures.
