Solid all metal unit, with some quality issues (maybe it was me who was "lucky" to get a defective unit)

This is an all-metal compass which is copy exactly of what I used very long time ago, during my school years. It is very solid and nice to the touch. I like this design much better than anything that is available today.
It comes in a nice case. It is made by a Chinese company, has chinese label on the box with an english language label attached on top of it.
The reasons why I ranked it 4 stars is that it did not quite work out of the box. The insert with the lead would not slide into the leg of the compass. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the slot in the insert was not made sufficiently symmetrical, and screw which is supposed to hold it in place was getting in the way. The option of returning for replacement was considered, but ultimately, without knowing if other units could have the same quality issues, I just removed the screw, inserted the attachment with lead all the way, drilled through the hole with a small drill bit and was able to get the screw into the hole.
Also, I could not quite figure out why the tip of the attachment for ink had some ink on it. A new item is not supposed to have that. Again, this was not much of an issue because who cares about the ink attachment these days (maybe only artists).
Overall, aside from the quality concerns, the design is just right. It is stiff enough to hold the radius nicely, it comes with spare leads, it is compact, it makes it very easy to change the circle radius, it can be used to draw circles and to measure distances. My son, a middle schooler, instantly preferred it over a twenty dollar Staedler compass. I am considering ordering another one for my woodworking projects.
