A mortar and pestle is a staple to any kitchen that uses a lot of seasonings. We use this to break down the seasoning such as thyme or rosemary. Basically any seasoning that is going to get stuck in your teeth gets ground down. It only takes a moment and that way you can measure out a teaspoon or a tablespoon much easier.
