We had barn swallows - very persistent ones - repeatedly trying to nest in our front entry way. I tried putting chicken wire, plastic bags, CD's, balloons, and flags without success. I saw these types of spikes being used at banks and other buildings in town, so looked into these. After much research, I settled on these for good reason: They metal strip can be easily trimmed to size with a tin-snip; the spikes can be bent to where you want them; and the product itself is very sturdy and well built. They have been installed for a little over a week, and I haven't seen a bird even get close to them. Hopefully the novelty won't wear off and the birds won't try to nest between the spikes, but so far, so good. These seemed better than the other ones I reviewed, and the price was very great. I would highly recommend them thus far!

I love that these come preinstalled. These are a great price for the product. Birds started nesting under the under-side of my deck back in April 2021, I knocked down the nest before eggs were laid and put up the spikes and reflector tape, and birds did not come back near my deck at all immediately after installation.
The spikes are close together so birds can't form nests inside the spikes.
Through multiple storms and windy days, these spikes have stayed up there for over 2 months now and still no birds.

Prior to buying this product, robins would build on my log home every Spring. I love birds and didn't mind cleaning up the mess after the babies fledged but, unfortunately, about the time the baby birds were getting their feathers, large blacksnakes would show up and eat the baby birds (we live in the country next to farmland). Since we put up the bird blinders, we have had no nests built on the house and, consequently, the snakes are not drawn to the house. We also use mothballs and/or Snakeaway, sprinkled around the base of the house to discourage the snakes.

When I first opened the box, they looked quite flimsy and weak. But they are pretty sturdy, They don't come with any screws so you have to nail them in place where you want to use them. I lined them up on my fence to keep away squirrels, birds and cats and to keep them from walking on the fence. The stainless steel seem to disappear from sight from a distance, so they don't look unsightly lined up on the fence.
