Stores very small. East to extend. Took some practice getting it to retract again, but after a few tries I can do it quickly. Push down on the tip and slightly twist the wide wind as it is pushed against a flat surface.
Not For Kids 12 and Younger!!!!!

The media could not be loaded. This item is not for young kids. It is quite dangerous to be honest. I suggest looking at a video 1st before attempting to release the staff. I do not recommend carrying this item in your pocketbook or pocket. If that pin some how releases it could cause major problems to yourself, someone close by you, or and object. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL!!!
Great prop

Needed for a theater show. Worked well and was reusable for 9 productions. Just be careful when resetting it to reuse. Definitely recommend for any type of show or performance you need them for.
Not a bad little toy

Overall, this product isn't bad at all. It's relatively cheap and will survive you a while if you don't beat up on it.
If you tighten the actual metal turns, its durability is increased to nearly the level to beat someone with it (not that I recommend that).
However, it is a bit sharp. If you're not careful whilst extending it, there's a chance you can get a small skin cut. Nothing serious, just be careful.
One handed extension is a bit hard to master, and so it wrapping it back up. A few reviews say it's near impossible to wrap up, but I didn't have a problem wrapping it up in under a few seconds.
Pros:
+ Cheap but durable
+ Makes for a really good magic trick
Cons:
- Sharp

Got interested in this watching the four-part series on Muhammad Ali...great feature about an incredible athlete. Anyway, he used the Fantasio cane a lot to entertain folks. The cane is still a challenge. The instructions weren't any help but on YOUTUBE there's a young fellow named David Castle who walks through collapsing and using the cane. He, of course, makes it look so easy...especially collapsing the cane. He explains and demonstrates it well enough, but doing it is not easy. About one out of three times I'm able to collapse the cane. Then, it's very light and making it appear makes it wind up flying off into space. But if it was easy, everyone would have one. The cane is very light plastic but feels like it will hold up for a while. Have to keep trying...that said...it will be worth the effort.
