Fits Stihl BG75 blower with some extensive modifications
medicbiker•June 11, 2018
Couldn't find a direct fit carb on amazon for my Stihl BG75 blower, but the models listed here cross referenced with other models that cross referenced with mine so I figured what the heck.
The carb in this kit is on the left, and the original carb is on the right. There are some differences, two being an issue.
The original carb has a throttle assembly shaft that is longer and tapped with a screw on the end that affixes a plate that operates the throttle linkage. The new one does not have this, instead it has a cable mount on the opposite side of the carb, which will not work with the throttle rod coming from the trigger. I had to use the old shaft in the new carb. Does it fit? Of course not! It's 0.10 mm too large in diameter. I suppose that's better than being too small. I had to chuck it in a drill and file, sand, and polish to the correct size. I used a micrometer to get it to the proper size. Took me a good half hour.
Ok, we have the right size shaft now. Well, the throttle linkage plate on the end of the shaft is right where the fuel return line is on the primer body. You can see on the original carb it is on the left side and the replacement carb it's on the right. I had to drill a new hole closer to the mounting screw and cut/file away the end of the plate so it would clear the tubing (see picture) because the plate is not bidirectional. You can't just rotate it so the connection is on the left side. The plate from the original carb does not fit either.
I also had to remove the plastic cones on the trim screws because they would not clear the blower's outer housing when I tried to put it on.
The rest of the parts are good- the filters, tubing, grommets, spark plug, etc. It was tricky to get the tubing onto the filter, seemed more difficult than it should have been. Otherwise no issues. That's why I gave it five stars... it wasn't actually meant for my blower, but the kit is nice and it works well once I did a little adaptation.
If you'd like to use this on a BG 75 blower than you'll have some work to do. If you want plug and play then order the correct part from a dealer.
