Satfi2 Review

I used the Sat-Fi 2 for a month in remote areas in Idaho while Backcountry flying. The phone worked seamlessly and we were able to get a part in for a disabled Aircraft. I was able to post to social media small photos, since they are compressed, but better than nothing which is the only other option available today. I was able to get weather, which is very important for pilots in remote wilderness areas. The text in email functions worked fine. It is important to know that there is no satellite device that works perfectly in all locations under all circumstances. If you are in a canyon and the sat device cannot reach A satellite connection, you have to wait until it can. Considering the options, the Sat-Fi 2 offers much more than any other device available today.

I bought this to replace my iridium go. The go was painfully slow. I fish in Northern Canada and I need something for the weather and for emergency communication. With the Go I had to go through a real exercise to get my weather using GRIB files and downloads from Weather 4D. With the Sat Fi2 the weather is part of the app and along with weather radar animation, which was impossible with Weather 4D. The email was much faster than the GO which had a speed of 2400 bps The Sat Fi2 speed was 78000 bps so it seemed fast to me. The phone link worked great and it had a US phone number unlike the clunky International phone number my Iridium had. As with all satellite phones you must wait for a satellite to be near in order for it to power up, this can take up to ten minutes, which can seem like an eternity waiting for the green light to appear. The WiFi range is not 100 feet, I would give it about 10 to 15 feet. In all I would not switch this for my old Iridium set up.
